This speech was lit reply to an address pre* sen ted by the corporate authorities of the city. Mr. Johnson said that in the discharge.of tbe duties of his position be anticipated no trouble, so far as the preservation of peaceful relations between the United States and England was concerned, but the high and deserved reputation achieved by his illustrious predecessor. NEW ORLEANS, Sept. 5—Pinch Back, the mulatto recently, installed in Mr. Jewett's place as Senator from the Secbnd District, New Orleans parish, yesterday in thejtenate rising to a question of privilege JnHreply to certain newspaper paragraphs concerning him, after charging the people of this city 'with murdering and manifesting a growing disposition to murder men for political opinion and the color of their skin, uttered the following: "I want them to beware. I want to tell them they have nearly reached tbe end of their string. The next outrage of the kind which they commit will be the signal, for the-dawn of retribution of which they have not dreamed, a signal that will cause ten thousand torches to be applied to this eity. Forbearance will then have ceased to be a virtue—this city will be reduced to ashes."

The Arkadelphia Standard of the 29th has a report that a bloody tragedy occurred last week at Lewuvilie, Lafayette county, in the southwest corner of the State, resulting in the death of ipven ne* groes and five white men. The circumstances of the case were substantially as follows:
A negro ,ma|B had cojnwitted a horrid outrage Upon a little girl three yeah old, and citizens executed summary punishment upon him by hanging.
A brother of the negro went to town after the execution and behaved himself in a very insulting and riotous manner, and using threats against those who had hung his brother. The people of the place, after .bearing his insults for some time, hung him also. Negroes of the town and neighborhood then collected to gather to the numberof some 40 or 50 and made a general attack upon the town, which was met by the citizens with the above result.
Crop reports are very encouraging, particularly in tho South eastern portion of the State,
