THE BASKET PICNIC in Lost Creek township takes place to-day. Extensive preparations are made by our Republican friends in that preeinct for a large gathering. We hear of a number going ouj, from town, and hope all who can spare the time will do so. Major Carter will poiitlvely be present and make the leading address. •i'i
THE PRIZE BANNERS.—At Indianapolis, Wednesday, the one largest was reduoed to tha counties of Delaware and Wayne. To Delaware county was awarded the first prize banner, her delegation being the largest in the procession— ,in uniform. Wayne county was awarded the second prize banner, she having th« largest delegation in proprortion to her Bepublicnn voto.
THE SCOAR CREEK Republicans will have a big meeting at Maxville to-mor-row.- A pole is to be raised, and the two 'companies of Grant Troopers, recently organized in that township will be in at tendance. fespondeht of the Indianapolis Sentinel thus speaks of our candidate for Cott-
"He is a man* who woufd 'iKve^rfty mained in the brush around Bowling Green to this day, but fot the^sct that some years ago, somehow or other, the news got to that interesting village thfit |a big war was going 6a somewhere, -and forthwith Carter's heart became fired with a desire for military glory—and,, buckling on his trusty sword, off he started for the field of strife, bent on blood and fame.
HP fought!. He may have bled, but he didn't die." What was Major Carter's competitor doing about the time "the news got to that interesting village that a big war was going on': Was he holding midnight: conference with John C. Breckenridge or was he shouting to his constituents "not one man, not one gun, not one dollar will I vote to carry on this war'-'?
When "forthwith/ Carter's h&art 'Became fired with a desire for military, glery," what fired the Jieart of .Dan. .Voorhees Was it hatred of "Lincoln hirelings"? Or was it lofty admiration of "the brave Caucasians of the South,1' who kl thanked God,*4(couldn't be.conquered?"
When Carter "buckled on histrastysword and started off for the field of strife," for what place did Dan Voorhees start? Was it for an appointed rendezvous with the secret agents of Jofr Davis in Canada!? or did he start for some midnight council of the Sons of Liberty

"He fought," you admit. Yes "A« fought" while Dan. Voorhees was doing all that malice ever could inspire the heart of an enemy of his country to do, to neutralize that fighting. "He may have bled Well, the acts and utterances of Dan Voorhees caused thousands of brave men to .bleed, even unto death, for whom thousands of bearts bleed to-day.
Yes "he fought"- and "bled" that his! country might live, while Voorhees was running up and down the country on a cowardly mission of malevolence and enmity towards his government, shouting' "the Republic is dying, DTIKQ, DYING." "You can't conquer eight millionsvof brave caucassians!" How do Voorhees and his friends like the contrast
BOLD ACT.—On
Saturday Evening
about eight o'clock, Mr. Millard F. Par ker, foreman for Loqkfaart & Co., lightning rod manufacturers, who resides on Union Avenue, Allegheny City, was going from his residence up the avenue to Ohio street. When near the Methbdist Church he was approached by a man, apparently drunk, wnieh only proved a feint by some scoundrel who struck Mr. Parker upon the head a severe blow. As soon as he recovered he called for police. None appeared and the villain made his escape down an alley, not taking time td pick the pockets of Mr. Parker, owing to the near approach of other parties.— The police should be on the alert for the scoundrel.—Pittsburg Commercial.
Mr. Parker is a son of our feflow-citi-1 izen, J. D. Parker, Esq.
CONTRARY to our expectations, thjb
Democratic meeting held this placexm ,u
perhead demonstration. The speaking called forth no applause, and both Voorhees and his Democratic hearers appeared disheartened, lost and disconcerted.
Not until after the .meeting had adjourned was heard a single huzzah for Seymour and Blair, and then only two persons could muster courage enough to raise the shout. These-two voices came frem a wagon in which was a band of martial music, which thereupon immediately struck up that favorite Democratic air commonly called "jaybird," to which the vehicle containing them struck out for home.—Rockville Republican.
