Yesterday and last night witnessed
occasion that witnessed the outpouring of a people, spontaneous, patriotic, fervent in Jh^ love of *»i«Ji^re^f the nation. It was an occasion such as strengthened the confidence and deterinination of those whom it brought

at Iadianapolis yesterday, w*S but one of themf^flby fUtmBr ken to their conviction that the war for the extermination^' the rebellion was not a failure, and that the principle on which this Gdve^nment was^established, ought ihd must prevail.*^ it y&S *'itf ear« nest of what the people will accomplish at the coming election. It was not -only the largest gathering thaj^asjever assembled at a political, meeting Jn this State, T)nt in fervor and spirit, in''perfect keeping with its magnitude, and eqjiklly unpreoedenUd.
The day was all tfiat cottld^iavA- b®f»' desired. The rains of the previou&dayS had washed the face of the earth and: settled the dust. The afr was cool and. bracing, while the sun shone in its,ki(|d«! liest style in fact* there was toftrything of blue sky, bright joyous sunlight and delicious coolness of air that titie most earnest well-wisher Of ft* glorious cause of the Union could desire.
At an early hour the people began to' pour into this city frbm all dirbctrb^rDelegations in tastily decorated Wagons, delegations on horseback, and families in every speciesHof vehicular arrangement Added

As each dellgation arrived «nd ed down Washington street cheer upoh cheer went up from the people ^irhd thronged the side-walks, door-ways and windows. The manner in which the "Fighting Boys" were entertained by the people of Indianapolis was indeed credit able. At the two Market Houses 16ng tables were set with all ther edibles that go to make a good, hearty dinner, and here for two long hours the ladies welted on the tables as the "Boys" filed in, satisfied their hunger, and gave place to other comrade*. ..There was a great plenty provided for all, and we must say that in no other town in Indiana could a-like eh tertainment on so grand a scale be under taken.
At half past one thespeeking commenced in the State House Square, from three stands. General Charles Oruft was cho^ sen President of the Day, "with one Vice President from each Congrewio9|il.J^u(trict, and three Secretaries."
General Hurlburt and Hon. Sam Galloway spoke from this first stand Hon A. G. Porter and Gov. Ogleeby from the second stand and General Gibson, Gen. Willich and Hon. Henry 8. Lane spdke from the third stan^. Of .course we ~can?not give our readers even sytto^usis of these masterly speeches.
The great gathering was remarkable not from its numbers alone'. From the time of the announcement of the^firft speakers until the close, tys, most iniBnie interest was "manifest! The multitude stood in quiet, listening intently tO' teoh word as it fell from the lips of the sp!ak ere. The most perfect silence and order was maintained throughout save when the utterance of aomo fervidly patriotic sentiment caused the people to break out into the loudest and most v&tiferous<clAet ing, which subeided only to brepk out again and again.
The stands Were widely sepaTated, and yet those at the outside of each audiende mingled with those listening to the other speakers—leaving thoosan^ nnable to get within hearing of the sptaters. Nevir before was witnessed in Indiana

The regular morning train from this eity. landM at' Indianapolis loaded4o^n to the very bottom steps with eight hundred people. The- special train came iq with dxteen cars, parrying our Fightiiig Boys in Bine, Cuqua's Band and Stevens Martial Band, with a large nubbe^p our citizens, and others came in on the evening train to witness the torchlight demonstration at night. In all Terre Haute contributed not less than eight hundred to the vast gathering." 'I.
