THE TANNERS met in their several wards last night to make arrangements for the trip to Indianapolis to-morrow At each place the greatest enthusiasm prevailed and tne feeling was general that "We'll all go I"

The Fourth Warders will hold another meeting to-night to perfect arrangements.

*HE FIFTH WARD meeting last evening, was largely attended, and of the most enthusiastic character. Col. Nelson made a ringing speech of half an hour.— Arrangements were made to erect a pole next week, one hundred and fifty feet high. The next meeting will be held Saturday nigbt.

JOHN T. SCOTT'S statement that the debt of the United States is equal to $1,00 for every grain of wheat contained in TWELVE HUNDRED MILLIONS of BUSHELS," has induced a friend to make the following calculation: 10,000 persons counting at the rate of 100 per mjnute for ten hours each day( and 300 working days in the year, would accomplish their task in 60,400 year?.— "Great SGOU

ABRAHAM BAKER, charged trith assault and battery with intent to kill one Frowley several weeks sinse, had an examination before the Mayor yesterday and was acquitted. Baker forfeited his recognizance by not appearing for trial some two weeks since, but was hunted up and brought in by his surety. His father, who appears to have caused the injury has cleared out and cannot be found.— The injured man has about recovered.

RADICAL BULLYISM AT CLINTON LA SATURDAY.—The Radical bullies in and about Clinton, Vermillion county, are determined to sustain their reputation for general meanness and rowdyism. On the occasion of Mr. Voorhees' speech in that place last Saturday these loil scalawags gathered in large numbers and attempted by every means in their power to break up the meeting, but the firmness of the Democrats frustrated the cowardly at* tempt. The Radical leaders whiningly cry, "let us have peace." How much peace will they obtain by that kind of conduct ?—Journal.

We are reliably informed Mr. VoorheW peremptorily denies that there was any attempt to interrupt his speaking at Clinton, and asserts that at no place has he been more courteously treated during the canvass than at Clinton last Saturday.

11.25 p. M. This arrangement will afford all an opportunity to witness the entire demonstration, day and evening. The above are the only trains on which the $2 00 tickets will be taken. Passengers from the roads west, south and north of this point, will be taken at half-fare on the evening trains of the 1st, and returned on the 2d and 3d of September.

i)R. J. HALE, of Indianapolis, Physician for diseases of the Head, Throat and Lungs, embracing Catarrh, Asthma, Bronchitis and Consumption. Also, Liver Complaints and Dyspepsia, often the principal cause of the above. Dr. H. has visited Terre Haute once in four weeks for three years past, without a failure, and will continue to do so in the future. During this time, over fifty citizens of Terre Haute have been permanently cured of some one of tbtie insidious and dangerous complaints, while many others have been relieved and greatly benefitted.

JOHN T. SCOTT, in his Cloverland speech, said "the public debt of the United States amounts to as many dollars as there ars grains in twelve hundred millions of bushels pf wheat." A friead of ours has taken the trouble to make an estimate, founded on this little remjttjt of the varacions would-be Judge. He finds there are 100 grains in an ounce of large, plump wheat. This gives 17,600 grains, to a pound, j^.,036,000 grains to a bushel

ud the inconceivable number of 1,161g**in# in &ou:« twelve hundred millions of bushels. From this it appears that John T. Scott, whe thinks himself qualified for the highly responsible position^ "jSjf Con^non Pleas Jud|p, hm been gaiKy of standing up before In audience of intelligent men and assuring them that the public debt of the United States amounts to $1,267,200,000,000,000-

Comment on such a statement would be superfluous. Nothing can add to the contempt which every honorable mind must feel for the author of so outrageously stupid a falsehood. We will say, how ever, that could this man be elected to the bench, one good result would follow.— Longevity, in this Common Pleas District, would be greatly promoted for no sensible person would "shuffle off this mortal coil" if he could avoid it, knowing that his estate must pass through the hands of the author of the most stupen dous falsehood ever invented outside of a lunatic asylum.

IT is a bad thing to have a railing memory. If Voorhees could only recall the events of the past he would be able to explain all about his connection with those rifles intended to arm the Sons of Liberty in Indiana.

A CROWD of chivalrous Democrats, aided by several policemen, mobbed a young Republican of Evansville on Sunday morning because he would not per* mit them to cut down a Grant pole of which ho had charge. .in

WE learn from the Indianapolis Sentinel that Mrs. Tolbert, of Boone county, a sister of A. J. Boone, Esq., of Lebanon, was recently stabbed in the abdomen by some fiends unknown, who came to her house for the purpose of robbery. She died last Wednesday.

WE understand that one thousand cav airy will arrive early on Wednesday morning from Decatur county, preparatory to joining in the great demonstration on Wednesday night. They will encamp southeast of the city.

From all parts of the State we hear that large bodies of mounted men will reach the city during Tuesday night and Wednesday, for participation in this greatest ovation to loyalty that has ever been conceived in the Western country.—Indian apolif Journal.

VOORHEES acknowledges at last that when the rebels, having completed all arrangements for the attack on Sumter were about to open the fire of their guns, armed by ten thousand men, on Anderson's little band of heroes, he said in a speech at Greencastle: "I say to you, my constituents, that, as your representative, I will never vote one dollar, one man, or one gun to the administration of Abraham Lincoln to make war on the South."

Dan's memory isn't good, at best, but he recollects this, at last.

W yesterday visited the State Fair Ground, with Superintendent Sullivan and found the work progressing very rapidly. The track is now in splendid condition. The floor is nearly laid in the amphitheater, and a twelve foot shed is to be put up at once on each side of Power Hall, making it fifty feet in width. A number of additional wells have been put down, and it is evident at a glance that the grounds are much better arranged and provided than ever before. Applications for space are unusually numerous already, and it is confidently expected that the attendance will be double that ever had before at a Fair in° the State.— Ind. Commercial.

IN 1864 Voorhees said the National Debt was equal to one-third of the prop erty in the United States, and that it re* quired one-third of the proceeds of the industry of the country to pay the inter est thereon. In a [speech at Rockville. thfr other day, Voorhees said "the national debt is equal to one-sixth of the property ih the United States, and it requires one sixth of the proceeds of the industry the country to pay the interest." According to D. V., therefore, the debt has been reduced just one-half in four years Oughtn't that to satisfy Daniel and hi, friends

THREE suspicious looking characters passed through the city Saturday morn* ing with a spring wagon, loaded with goods, covered up with a tarpaulin or oil cloth. On learning the suspicious charluster of the party, Captain Wilson dispatched policeman Jack Buser and young man named William A. Fisher to arrest them. They were overtaken at a farm house on the Greencastle pike, about six miles from Mooresville, Morgan coun ty, where they had put up for the night, and after a savage fight, in the course of Which two of them were roughly handed by Buser, they were captured and tied. Buser took two of them with him in the buggy, while Fisher took the wagon, with the other thief, and the procession started for the city. Just below town, near the Marcaty farm in the river bottom, the two scoundrels in the buggy with Buser, having succeeded in untying their arms, took sudden leave of their traveling companion and disappeared among the tall weeds. The night being dark, they succeeded in making their escape. The other fellow, who refused to give his name, was brought to this city. He says, how* ever, that the two men who escaped are named George Small and Tom Tyler. One of them is a large, powerful man, with sandy whiskers, and has a deep cut across the forehead, where Buser struck him with a pistol.

The plunder is mostly dry goods, and was stolen, as he has since ascertained from Mr. Leon Blume, of Wapokanata, the county seat ef Auglaize county, Ohio The two horses in the spring wagon were stolen from Winchester, where the thieves left a span of horses, tired out. The goods are worth about $3,500.—Ind. Sentiael.
