ACKNOWLEDGES THE CORK.—H Holden is out in a card, published in'the

Journal

of yesterday, in which he admits

the genuineness of the "indulgence' "permit" published in our issue of the 26th. He erhiningly pleads guilty to the charge that while assuming to act as Prosecutor for this Common Pleas District, he issued, over his official signature] several papers authorizing gamblers to "run ring boards" and guaranteeing the parties immunity from arrest. Holden fhrther pleads, in extenuation of this very grave misconduct, that he was asked to do as he did. We are to infer from this that were he Prosecuting Attorney, he would consider himself bound to commit any similar outrage if he were asked to do so.

Holden thinks the fact that the Grand Jury failed to find a bill against him when this subject was brought to their attention, is ample evidence of his innocence. The failure to find such a bill may be attributed to tbe absence ot the men to whom the permits to violate law were granted. We have only to say, in relation to Holden's personalities, that the accident of his being a candidate for office is the only circumstance that could give him sufficient importance to merit this brief notice and such other notice as his malfeasance, while pretending to dis charge the duties of an assumed office, may call for.
