THS Xatiov. of the 20th inst, in speak irig of the slanderouB articles of the World upon Gen. GRANT, truly says that the Democrats are disgracing journalism and show very plainly that the South is once again open to journalistic enterprise and retains its old liking for scurrility an^ puerility. And it as truly says the Republicans confine their stories to the public life of the enemy, or simply to fun-mak mg.

The Yote of Ohio.

The Cincinnati Chronicle desires Be publicans, in other States to understand that Ohio—GRANT'S native Btata—is not and has not been at eny time since the Chicago nominations were made, at all doubtful. The Chronicle also denies, what has been gratuitously asserted, that the Republicans of Ohio are apathetic, and asserts that t.hoy are at work in earnest' and never with better hopes than to-day In conclusion it says We hare felt sure, from the outset, of at, least. 25,000 majority for GRANT in this State, The presont in dications are that it will exceed 40,000.

THE Louisville Courier is beginning to give wise counsel. It favors, through its correspondents, ti re-eloction of JOHN 3. GOLLADAT, because Congress once ad initted him to a soat, while it might not admit Mr. J. F. BOOTH, who is proposed to displace him, behaving been an active secessionist and rebel. Kentucky is learn* ing that her leading rebels cunnot enter the legislative halls of the Nation they tried to destroy, for a while yet. The Courier's correspondent recommends these men to he used as campaign orators among rebellion sympathizers in Southern Indiana, but does not wish to risk their adruiscion into Congress.

THK Journal of yesterday says the Democratic National ticket was "nominated under circumstances unlike that of any other ever heretofore made in the history of parties in this country."

This is very true, lamentably true, and "that,s just what* the matter" with the ticket. The existence of those "circumstances," so peculiar, exceptional and "unlike any other'' has foreordained the ticket to overwhelming and ignominious defeat. The nomination made by FORREST, YALLANDIGHAM,

HAMPTON and

other men of their sort cannot succeed until the "lost cause" shall ba regained.

Rev. r. A. Brooke's Address. Republicans will bear in mind the address to bo delivered before the GRANT and COLFAX Club at the old Court House to-morrow night. The Rev. C. A. BROOKE is one of the most popular, as ^ell as scholarly aud eloquent, of our clergymen If there ever was a time when the proprieties of the ministerial profession might hare been regarded as excluding a clergyman from participancy :n affairs that vitally interest ali classes and professions, that time has passed Th« serious issues of these times, issues in-fol-ing Tiot only great moral questions but the very existence ot Republican government, call loudly upon all who ha~e anything to say for the right to speak boldly and fearlessly in the love of truth. Let all -who can appreciate true patriotism come out to-morrow night to hear Mr. BROOKR discuu "the mission of Political Parties, in a Republican Gov** ersmeat, and the conditions of their perpetuity.'

Republican majority, 11,614 The ^»mpaign of the present year has been vigorously conducted on both sides. The only practical question to be decided next month is whether iLe Republican majority shall be increased or diminished, or rather how much or how little it shall increased.

Wx hope therefore that if any of Mi Pendleton's friends have heretofore allowed their minds to entertain the opinion that his claims were not properly appreciated by the Convention, they will disabuse them of such a conclusion,—Journal-

The above, in order to fuliy appreciate its coolness, should be read in connection with the report of the "indignation meet ing," held in this city, on the night of the eighth ultimo, and should be carefully compared with that $16 40 dispatch, which the Journal didn't publish. An attentive perusal of LAFK DBVLINS speech, and sundry articles from numerous Democratic organs, proving that, in the language of tbe Tipton Times, "our un faithful and infamous delegates in the New York Convention, sold us out to Eastern sharpers for Wall street gold," would also be a proper accompaniment to this (rigjd language of the Jourrwh

More of Democratic Tactics, We have before asserted, what no intelligent man will deny, that the tactics of the Democratic party in this canvass is wholesale, outrageous, unmitigated lying and deception. SiTMoXTR has set the example and his partisans of the press and stump are not slow to follow suit. Observe how flagrantly dishonest is the course of the whole party upon the main issues with reference to different sections and interests. |-J

Democratic Equalization The New York Democratic Convention iu their platform announced that upon the elevation of their party to power, they will "tax equally every species of proper. ty including natioual bonds" accordinglto its value.

The Chicago Tribune estimate^ tho val ue of taxable property of every kind in the United States in 1870 at $35,000,000,. 000. Of this sum it supposes 113,000,000, 000 will fairly represent the value of farm lands and $3,000,000,000 the value cf live stock, farm improvements, machinery and implements.

The national bonds amount" to about $2,100,000,000. Neither the lands, live stock, machinery nor implements of the farmers, nog tbe bonds are taxed by tbe United States.

The Democratic party propose in order to equalize taxation to collect an equal tax for every species of property, including government bonds, according to i|a value. Tbe annnal wants of tbe United States for revenue including interest and pensions will be $?50,000,000 or c~.e pe~ cent upon all the taxable property/ip the United States.

Ihe practical operation of tbe Democratic system of taxation will be that the government bonds will yield annually a tax of $21,000,000, and that the farm lands, fences, horses, bogs, sheep, coickaa^ COT, wagons, machinery and ilBplwn(rP of the farmers will yield $160,000,000 «!&! nually.
