For instaiu e, ttio tinanciai psition would only bring men to the support of the Republican party it the ti nth were tidd, but the Democrats, knowing that fact, breed untruths in number as worms that throng decaying careais. "Contradict nothing!" is thuir motto if you have told an untruth innocently let some.body else correct it. Not one Democratic paper in all this land, to our knowledge, allows its readers to see in its columns corrections of any misstatement it may have made, hut when its error is proved, it simply ignores the fact, and either reiterates that falsehood or spawns a new one.
We have corected a few thousand of these misstatements giving the official figures as our authority has anybody ever seen a einglo correction in any Democratic paper? To his shame tie it said, Mr.
himself leed the way in this
method of attack. Wo hare referred to many of his statements already a single one will serve as a sample: He asserts that it costs $150,000,000 a year to maintain an army in the South now the whole number of troops in all the Southern States/or at
I purposes is only 18,000,
costing less than eighteen millions a year, and the whole cost of the Freedmatrs Bureau last year was three millions, and ot the reconstruction acts one million, and no other expense whatever has been caused, directly or indirectly, by the necessity of preserving peace and establishing civil government at the South, or the duty of giving protection to loyal men, white aod black, until thoy have local governments to protect them. Thus the entire expense sri3ing from these causes was last year less than tvrer.ty-th.ree million. for

Democratic Tactics.
The tactics adopted by the Democracy in this campaign is In.11, audacious lying Thoy employ even possible artifice to prevent the in«reses of the p*rty from being brought in contact with facts. Joint discussions fire evaded find every avenue by which truth could be poured in upon the Democratic mind is sedulously gnarled ami closed agaimt Republican approach, whilej hordes of falsehoods are propagated in every direction.

Seymour oil Pendleton's Ureeuback Scheme. When the New York Democratic Slate Convention met at Albany,
HORATIO SEY
MOUR, who had been chosen one of the delegates at large to the National Convention, made perhaps the most elaborate spoech of his life. He was especially requested to speak for and express the views of the New York Democracy on the subject of the currency, finance, payment ot the bonds, &c. He expressly declared that the sentiments.ho uttered were the sentiments of the Democratic party of the State. That speech, as reported in the New York World, concluded as follows:
It is a mistake to suppose the interests of bondholders and tax payers are antagonistic. The fact is overlooked that, in order to make any saving by giving the bondholders a worthless paper, we would bring upon ourselves disaster and dishonor, which will cost a hundred fold what we can save. It means that the honor of our country shall te stained that our business shall be kept in uncertainty and contusion that the laboring man shall suffer by the increased cost of the con.forts 'i life that tax-payars shall be burtfcened ty a Government proved to be corrupt aaci imbecile by this very depreciation of its money. We can't afford to speculate upon the nation's honor at so fearful a cost. If ict coine *r.?opciver there will be no discredit on our currency, no speculation in paying ovr bond? in paper. I thank God the faith which we hold as or.e mar., seeks to level up, not to level dofti. While, therefore, we may differ as to the construction of the contract witL the public creditor, we mutt not confound the position of those who think it right to pay in paper, bat who battle to make that paper as good as gold, with the position of those who mean to pay not only ia paper, but, who are destroying the value of that paper. This is repudiation. We are not trying to give paper to the bondholder, but gold and silver to the people. a. r.: MWM aAmnrmSU ««sA
