There never was a more serious mts^ take than many of our Republican Iriendi are fallipg into 1*» flttpp6«Hion that the Democracy o^tndTana intend to give ua an eaay victory in this campaign. The truth is, they began the canvass more than a year ago and began it in the most effective way, by quiet but thorough orf ganizationvand bjrphtttng Democratic documents in the hands of every votef who could be induced to read them. In this work .they have persisted everjilice, making little noise, but carefully feeling their way ahd ««lng every «?Pi* *Mt coolest sagacity could suggest to coasoli' date their forces and briog.in the waver ing, disaffected and disappointed from thoM who have heretofore voted the Republican ticket. Ed. Expbsbs Radical rutd iwantly become a term of reproach--very unjustly 8, tli« ntlbjert t. wliicil it rt||)lit^ Is, within itsolf, roprr.r»chaMc,

To say a man is a radical Republican means onljr a Republican true arid faithful to hiri principles If thn principles are right, then it is right to be radical in them. Radical, is nothing moro than firm to your purpose, be that pnrposo what it may. This outcry against Radicals, or Radicalfem, is nothing more than an ar-. gument in favor of Republican principles! "Democracy," being unable to find any fault with the known principles of Republicans, has to fall back upon some expletive, or term of reproach, to associate with tbo term Republican.

After all, there is great virtue, in this word of four sylables. And tho time is appproaching, when it will be regarded as an honor to have been a Radical in the days set apart for the purpOse^qtielling rebellion, and punishing treason and traitors. There is great meaning in the word. It has been a terror to evil -doers. Just in proportion to its force of ^character to its weight and influence, has been the hatred and reproach of treason and trai tors. The Copperhead and Rebel world is out upon it, with all the malignity that once characterized thoir wonderful disgust to the term Abolitionism. Even the modern phrase of "Nigger suffrage does not sink and terrify the fluttering heart of treason and traitors like that of Radicalism. If tfie country is to be saved it will be through the virtue of Radical ism. Let this term be contrasted with the word "Conservatism," (which a 8ena tor in Congress sometime ago pronounced the worst word in the English language) and see how wide, how far between, the opposite results of each—the one for good and the cither for evil. Conservatism is near relative to Copperheadisra, which the twin^ of treason. Radicalism, truly considered, is a contradistinction with all feeling of sympathy with treason and rebellion—whether that, feeling may have been shown in fighting for, and with the South, or whether exhibited in giving aid and comfort, in money or means, to rebels in arms, or whether czerciscil in refus ing money and means te carry on tho mil Itary measures essential to put down the rebellion. "A Radical Congra»3," to be sure, the grand term of reproach. But for Congress true to Republican principles whatjeondition would the country be in at the present time If a Congress true to Republican principles, had not been thwarted by a perverse President, reeon struction would long since have been es tablished. Radical, means loyal—hence the ridicule of the term by the disloyal Who are the revilers of Republican reconstruction Not loyal people—never Every traitor in the land ia opposed to Republican reconstruction^-^Every sym pathizer in the South is loud in hostility to what he calls Radicals.. .A.11 those who voted against monoy and supplies for the IJnion army—all those who opposed the raising of tiroopgjbr the Union army, sing brit'onejfeflmp, th|t ofjopposition to what they call "Radical.

Let us hear no more of this weak at tempt to .C«#i.ireproaoh .upon thn term Radical. "ItiB'a term of Virtue and mor al force and it is tho virtno within it that is fearful to "Domocracy. It is an argument ia favor of Republican recon Struction, that its opponents fool the neiccaiity.' riof substituting one term- for another, thus if posflbie, to create odium or reproach, in order ta do away with the .I.C. i. The Cattle Diseased

The breaking out 6f peculiar and here tofore unknown disease, among the cows in the vicinity of this city, is at last re ported. It is stated by the owner that his cows have been feeding in the same pas ture where some Texas cattle were fed the spring, and it is at once inferred tbat the disease was brought here by the Western cattle. We do not think this statemont of the case is a satisfactory one, and we hope that there will be a prompt and thorough investigation of the matter, go far there is a radical difference of opin ion among tboee who have given attcn tion to the disease in the West, and in New York andjMassacbusetts. We observe that Mr, M. E. Richardson, one of the Committee of Investigation of Chicago, has made a report fully confirmed Dy Prof. Gamgee. The conclusions reached, as summed up by the Farmers' Chronicle, afeaa follows: "The disease is not contagious or infec tious, but is a form of poisoning due to native cattle eating off lands polluted by Texas cattle. There are no cases except Where the Texas cattle hava been distiibuted, and all affcted animals in these district! die no system of medical treatment can be relied on, prevention being cilledfor. Prevention consists in herding native cattle on inclosed pastures whereeVer there are Texas cattlo, and in keepihg the latter by themselves, in proper inolosures, and not moving them from place to place. During the entire winter, trade ini Texas settle can go on without danger and probably even in summer, under judicious treatment, the Texas cattle ean be cleared of ihe poison which affect thpm."

Mr. Catron, a prominent citizen of Ilhaai». who has been giving the subject a good dflkl of attention, takes exceptions to ttajfe raport of Prof. Gamgee, in a letter to the Chicago #&5vstbliean. Mr. Catron is sustained in hia view by intelligent ob-. seTv«aiit ottwr aections of the country.— The Ameaia'fN. Y.) Times,'in speaking j)f:thedisease at that point, says lEha diseaae has been circulating by naime as the rinderpest, bat a gentleman who haa had intimate acquaintance with the disease tbat prevailed in Massachusetts comidea it idnnticad with tho Massachusetts malady. The animals that hia/vediet at Mr. Balis' appear well, so aaoan ba discovered, only a short time before they die.
