He had not been arrested when the tt^in passed Harmony yesterday evening. S

The condition of Mrs. Deitz is found to be much more favorable than at first supposed, and there are chances for her recovery. It appears that some ten dAys since she made affidavit before the proper authority that she believed her life in danger from her brutal husband. He was taken to Bowling Green, but succeeded in giving the required bail. This attempt on the life of his wife was prompted bv revenge for this proceeding!.'/ jj

RICHARD TREVALLICK speaks at-ti old Court House to-night under the auspices of the Democracy. This Trevallick is a peripatetic expounder of revolutionary, slave-loving J)eipocracy, who talks a great deal about labor but scorns to ftork with his own hands, and who has mMe his living for years past by levying 'contributions on workingmen:s associations He is now in the employ of tho Democratic State Central Committee and while in this district is under the especial direc tion of Austin M. Puett. 11

We publish on the second.page an article from the Industrial World, edited by that unselfish and honest champion of labor reform, J. C. Fincher, on tho gf»lh ering of broken down political hacks who congregated :it Now York on the Fourth of July, and assuming to act as a "Nation al Labor Convention,' fraternized with Belmont's Convention, then in session in tho samo city. Wo hupo our readers especially workingmon, will read it care, fully. It lets a Hood of light on tho means by which political charlatans seek to Bell the votes of honest laboring men to Ihe corrupt, lawless and revolutionary Demo cratic party.

9 KC LINED.— Major Carter, Radical candidate for Congress in the Terre Hauto District, challenged Mr. Yoorhnes, tho Democratic candidate, for a joint discussion, which Voorhoos dec]mod to accept. Nobody neod he astonished at this. Voorhees is no match for Carter on the stump. The brilliant Carter would wind Daniol around his little finger in a twinkling and demolish him in a breath. Voorhoe3 is wise to decline meeting tho Radical giant. So we suppose Radical papers will say.— One of the last resorts of horse Radical orators to get crowds is to challengo their opponents to "joint discussions." But it is about played out.—New Albany Ijedger.

So- you regard it as absolutely danger* oils to get out crowds to be addressed by '•Radical orators Our speakers certainly ought to appreciate the compliment, notwithstanding tho rliurlishness with which it is made. Mr. Yoorhees evidently regarded the matter in the samo light. He seems to have had no faith in his ability to convert Republicans who would turn out to hear him.—Evansville Journal.

THE HENDRICKS "demonstration" at Evansville on Monday night called out 2,500 men, womon and children, most of whom left before Thomas concluded his remarks.

THE Odd Fellows of North Madison lately purchased Union Hall in that place, and are fitting it up handsomely for their use, "Angerona" is in a flourishing condition.

THE Evansville Journal learns that several of the names attached to the call of soldiers published in the Courier of Sunday, wero without authority, and contrary to tho wishes of the gentleman namod.

THERE was a great rivalry between the two factions of the Democracy of Evans ville, to wit, the "kid glove" wing and the "common people," as to which should have the honor of receiving Hendricks last Monday. The kid glovists went to the depot with a splendid turnout and impatiently awaited the arrival of the train that, was to.bring the_ distinguished^ and'soon to be extinguished Senator and "National Bank blood-sucker." The train camein minus Thomas. He had been met at a station outside and captured by the other faction who bore him off in triumph.

WE learn from the Evansville Journal that on Saturday evening last two men went out turkey hunting, in Sullivan county, near Shelbome, neither knowing the other was out. One commenced call ing the turkeys, and the other hearing him, and supposing it was a real turkey, also commenced calling. It being in the dusk of the evening, he saw something through the brush which he supposed was a turkey. He took fair aim ahd fired. Upon approaching the spot he discovered that he had shot Dan iel Bush fair through the head, killing him instantly. A Coroner's inquest was held, and a verdict returned, "Killed for a turkey." We could not learn the name of the man who shot him.
