Tlie Army at the Sontta Vo thousand more Democratic lies are smashed by another plain official statement from the War Department, which shows that only 12,590 men of tho army arc on duty in all tho rebel Stater. This exclusive of 3,412 guarding ?ea coast fort-who-wdnld" bo needed therein any cs«o, and 2,723 engaged against Indians exclusively, the total number oi all kinds of duty in all tho Stato3that attempted to secede being only 18,731, or less than half tha dumber "given by the "Copperhead pa-ptr8-and speaker.«.' But their poiut is only with regard to those who are stationed at the South to preserve peace during tho progress of reconstruction, and these, as above stated, number only 13,CM—no more arid no lesB Again, the Copperhcadij havo charged that this force cost $2 000 per man per year, whereas the official statement ahowa that the cost is only $1,080 per man, and tho total cost of tho sbovo force for tlio year ending June 30,1868,. is only $13,596,000. But this same force, if not on duty At the South, would1 still have to ho stationed somewhere and supportod somewhere, and it could not bar supported anywhere it less otpeh^o than at tho South.

So much for Democratic lies about sn expense of "forty millions a year to support'Ti standing army at tho South."

Thoy are Jies^-that js all l~Mis*mtri jmortal.

A Nullification in 1868. iu 1828 Congress enaotod a tariff, which subsequently was modified to go into effoct in 1832. South Carolina did not approve of this legislation it was^ reducing the high-mfndeu pedjple of that State to a condition, of inferiority, compared with the ignorant, laborer* of the free labor States. So South Carolina, in 1831, called a State Convention, which convention adopted an ordinance, declaring the act of Congress known as the Tariff law to be "unconstitutional and void," therefore not to be enforced within the State of South Carolina The Legislature of South Carolina enacted several laws for carrying into execution the ordinance of nullification.

The country knows exactly how Gen. Jackson, who was then President of the IJnited States, treated this nullification business. He obtained from Congress the law known as the "free bill," and in his ftimous proclamations avowed his purpose to treat th030 resisting the national au» thority as traitors.

The New Torn Democratic Convention has, for the first time in the history of national parties, adopted nullification as a policy. .. It assails tbe legislation of Congress in no ordinary mode. It adopts tbe phraseology of .the South Carolina uullifiers ol 1832, and at his own request permitted a rebel officer of South Carolina to write into.that platform the declaration that tho acts of Congress were "unconstitutional and void," aud, as he has since explained, to be resisted and overthrown by the sword if necessary.

Thus South Carolina, which, in 1832, endeavored to bully General Jackson into a toleration of tho nullification of an act of Congress by a State, has obtained from the Democratic. Convention, by a Unanimous" vote a declaration that it is the right and duty of every State and citizen to nullify certain acts of Congress and to take up arms for that purpose, and promising that if their candidate be elected, he will use tho Fednral army to nullify said lawF.

The nullification Democracy of Seymour iB'What General Jackson, in 1831-2, declared. treason, and which he promised he, would punish &s ?tich.—Chicago Tribme. js

iowell spoke from tho Court House steps on Wednesday night last, to a large number of ladies and gentlemen. The speakers dealt in facts too strong to suit the rabble, who by way of reflation, coaxed the boys to sot up a howl which was disgraceful. This was done with a view to break up the meeting, but they did noff succeed. Rockets were even procured and discharged at the crowd, setting fire to a lady shawl. We have no doubt in our own mind but the boy? were hired to do what thoy did. At any rate, there were Democrats on the ground sufficient to have put a stop to this disgraceful conduct, had thoy desired to do so, but not a word was said to discourage the boys.— How mean aud contemptible such conduct looks in a civilized community, and the boys engaged in such heathenish amusement should be sent to tho House ot Correction for ten years, as their paronts are not fit to raise children in a der^nt community.—Sullivan Unicoi.
