Blair's celebrated speech, in which he declared he "would rather sleep with a nigger than with a Democrat," at St. Louis. That speech was made at Oilman's cooper shop, in this city. MARRIAGE LICENSES.—For such torrid weather, the following is a very respectable list of licenses issued by County Clerk SimpBOn, during last week: Samuel Russell and Margaret Wood. Andrew J. It .is. with extreme regret we bid him good-bye—the Prairie City reluctantly part3 with such citizens as Wells H. Buckingham and his estima ble wife!" BODY' FOUND.—The body of little Edward Archer, drowned Friday evening, was found Saturday morning, about sunrise. It was discovered floating near the surface, about two hundred yards below tfie point where his clothes ware found.— It appears that he went to the river against the consent of his parents, and alone,"as no one can be found who accompanied him. His parents and sisters have our deepest sympathy, in this sore affliction—the.loss of aq or.ly son and brother. 'His sad fate should be a warning to all boys, not only to obey their parents, but to'abstain from bathing in the river, unless accomp'artifed Ify.4'those capable of taking care 'of 'thfem in the time of danger.

COURT has adjourned to

Thursday, of this week.

HOT BALL.—TO use a base ball1term1, the suu may now-a_»days be catled a "jiot ball."

At a later hour, near the same place another fight occurred in which one of the combatants was severely bruised TEls* oncounter also originated in a too lavish3use of stimulants, and had a Bemipolitic&l' character. We suppress the names? of the belligerents, because we h£pe$lld'believe they will bo sufficiently ashamed of their conduct to avoid a repe tittofrjqf it and we appeal to all good citizens tQ feor^iJsdown every manifestation of such political^ animosity as is inconsistent with "the preservation of peace and order and the good name of our city. This sort of thing', has gone quite far en'ough and should be stopped just hero and before worse consequences ensue.

THE "MOVER" GAME.—Weare informed that considerable business is being done in the way of cattle stealing, by persons pretending to be "movers," who we are told travel with stolen wagons and horses. On getting Into the river .bottom they commence driving cows, and we presume some of the cows "we hear inquired for have gone off with the "movers." We hear of one "mover" who crossed the river at Terre Haute with nary cow, but when he got to St. Mary's he had a herd of five, which we aro told he sold and traded off on the way to and in the vicinity of.Ptyis. Cows_ belonging to our citizens have been "seen tied to the wagons of these "movers." We understand the same game is going on at other points along the river.

SUPPOSED

can be seen a venerable

bass drum, which was used at the bittle of Tippecanoe. It is so heavy as to require two men to carry it conveniently, and is an odd looking drum,' compared with those of modern sty le. It is the property of a citi/.en of this county, who prizes it highly, and has just had fifteen dollars^ worth of repairs put on it.

FUNERAL

NOTICE—Died,

on Saturday

night, July ISth, 1S68, MR. GEORGE W. MOORE, in the 23d year of his age.' The funeral will take place to-day, (Monday,) at 5 o'clock, p. M., from the residence of his mother, No. 107, North Fourth street. The friends and acquaintances of the family are requested to attend without further notice.

HORSE THIEVES.—Saturday

afternoon last a man and woman, claiming to'be married, but of which there is reason to doubt, arrived in town with two horses*arid a wagon, and offered to sell tho same to Mr. Tim Grover for $150. The

fact that the property is worth doublethat -ump

sum, caueed a suspicion that it had been

FOUND DEADTN BED.—Saturday morning, John Hoye, a painter, was found dead in his bed at the Union House. He was in the employ of Mr. Robert Buoklei, and last Monday had a slight attack of sunBtroke. He went to work on Tuesday, and continued at work until the evening be* fore his death. Complaining of not feeling very well, he wa9 given in-door work.— A bruise'near tho eye, leads to the belief that in jumping in tho river, head foremost,' he struck a"" log and was stunned- by the blow. Friday night, about twelve o'clock, a man sleeping with him was awakened and found him vomiting. After tho vomiting he said he felt better, and went to another bed in the same room. Saturday morning his room-mate arose and dressed himself, and'on going to arouse Hoye, found he was dead. Coroner Merry held an inquest, the jury returning a verdict in accordance with the above facts. The deceased was about fifty years of ago, and had a family residing in Zanesville, Ohio. The family was telegraphed of the sad event, and the body interred, Saturday evening, in the cemetery.-

HOTTER THAN THE HOTTEST.—In conversation, with two of our oldest and most reliable citizens, we learn from them tha' they cannot refer to so continuously a heated term in the month of Jul

Hot weather has been common in this* month, but its duration in extreenifj^Tfould generally be about three days, then a cooling off spell, and then heat again.' One person suggests that we are having all our hot weather at once, and that August will introduce a cooler condition of the atmosphere. ..ay»v

PUGNACITY.—The heated term and the free use of stimulating beverages are beginning to manifest a very unpleasant and not altogether creditable effect in the development ot a pugnacious spirit. About six o'clock Saturday afternoon a fight occurred on the corner of Fourth and Ohio steets between a prominest citizen and a respectable German cooper. ThiB occurrence grew out of a political discussion and culminated in a knockdown. Severe blows and several contusions were given and received by both combatants. A very large crowd was attracted and for a time, there was imminent danger of a general melee, which could hardly have occurred without the most serious, if not fatal, consequences. We do not undertake to decide who began the fray, but we belive both the principals are heartily ashamed of it, and, in the hope that they will not repeat the performance, we suppress their names for the present. No political party has anything to gain by such a line of argumen t, and we trust that well disposed citizens, of both parties, will use every proper effort to confine the conduct of the campaign on which we have entered to the use of such means only as shall bo consistent with law, order and individual selfrespect.

MOST BITTERS of the present day.tha are loudly puffed through the newspapers as having great tonic and curative properties are vile compounds and base impo* sitions, containing no medical virtues whatever, and are really very poor whisky beverages and, instead of acting as a stimulant and tonic, have a tendency to weaken the stomach by entirely destroying the coating. The pnblic should therefore be very cautions, and purchaee none but JRoback's Stomach Bitters, which have stood the test as a remedial agent for many years, and are really as their name indicate, a stomach bitters, and not a beverage. They combine the properties of the best tonic and a stimulant a gentle laxative, an efficient anti-blllious agent and the beat stomachic known to tho world, and, whon taken in conjunction with Roback's Blood Pills, are the safest and surest preventative against all billious derangements, thoroughly regulating the whole system and giving tone to the digestive organs. ^They are highly recommended as an invigorating tonjc to mothers nursing, increasing the flow of milk, and for convalescents, to restore the prostration which always follows long-continued sickness they are unsurpassed.
