BRICK POMEKOY, the great leader of the Northwestern Democracy, says in his paper—the acknowledged organ of the party—"It is well known that Governor SEYMOUR is opposed to touching the financial question—wantsjto leave it atand ing as it is, all in favor of the bondholders, and against the people—gold, and no taxes to pay, for the former, and rags, and all the taxes to pay, for the latter."

WILL the Journal publish "the gmt financial argument" of HoBXTto Si?MOUR delivered at Cooper Institn^'JTBW^ York, on the 25th ultimo? We ready given the public an able review of that celebrated speech from th6 pen of the editor of the Freeman's Journal. We 'wouldn't presume to dictate" but would very respectfully suggest to our neighbor, that it is hardly respectful to

SEYMOUR

IF the Grant people don't enthuse any oettor Thursday night the leaden will consider the jig up with that party Journal.

Our neighbor is so intensely delighted with its success in getting up an "Indignation Meeting" on short notice that it wants to take charge of the entire business of political meetings. Better wait till tha Democracy meet and eat that $16 40 resolution before you try your hand at any thing else. "The GRANT people" are not so energetic as tbey would be if they didn't know that the disgusted Democracy are playing into their hands. It requires at least a show of local opposition to call out the boat efforts of Republicans, mid that is what they ha van't encountered y^1 during the present campaign, t'he undisguised revolutionary spirit of the New York Convention—controlled as it.was to a great extent by rebels and traitorswill, however, incite the Union men of this State to sufficient exertion to insure something better than the usual success -•next Fall.

aouri, from which we extract the following paragraph "Now, shall we blacken ourselves by this intermingling of this dark race which we know is incapable of self-gov-ernment, and attempt to better our institutions,by admitting the black man and producing that deterioration which we know will come by such intermixture

This is peculiar language to come from one who koows as well as does Mr. BLAIK the history of the "domestic institution" and its effccts upou the people who enjoyed tho negro as an especial blessing for near a century.

There is scarcely an apology for the question asked, "Now, shall we blacken ourselves,'' &c. The persistent efforts of the chivalry, young and old, of the male persuasion, while the blessing of holding black chattels was theirs, was to whiten the negro, and whether tfcey might not have succeeded in doing so fully, was oo a question of time, bad not the rebellion abolished tho institniion. The "inter-, mixture" was only upon the part of tho propagandists, and not from any advances of tho negro or any especial desire of the ebon race to rise in the scale of humanity. The "deterioration" wan in the letting down of the white man below the level of the negro by this promiscuous intercourse with the "nigger,' and thus showing to the world tbat "self government," as far as the human passions are concerned, was beyond the capacity of the white Southron. Blackening, indeed' It really seemed that all pro-slaverydom, when thecwrse was in its bloom and highest prosperity, were mad and vexed at the Creator for the color of some of his creatures, and, opposed as they have al« ways been to complying with tho order of things as they were, set to work a bleaching process, to show that they could rebel, not only against the Government that protected them and their institution, but against thi work of the Ruler of the Universe. This new espound of Demos cratic principles should have given his views to the^chivalry, long years since upon This topic, and he would have been told to mind his own business. Tho "intermixturers" would have told him tint they were the only philanthropists Of the age, and that as they possessed all the refinement of the world, they needed not instruction in morality or religion. We say these are peeuliar notions for the candidate for the Vice Presidency, apd in his further assertions that it is impossible for the races to mix, he gives the lio to the history of the races in the slave States. It is truth to say that the races did mix in the South, and the truth exist?, whether the black race are to blame Or not. Mr.

BLAIR

lished in the

to pass over in silence his

great effort and go back five or six months to dig up FRANK BLAIR'S har* rangues.

was not far behind

In this matter either, if his past record is feet down correctly, as in his speech in this city a few years ago he said "he would rather sleep with a nigger than With a Democrat." His views have changed in this particular, however, as in many other things.

The Revolution and Its Object In the speech of FRANK BLAIR

Journal

of yesterday ap

pears the following sentiment which reminds one of the old efforts of TOOMBS in the Senate: "We all know my friends, at least most of ua living in this State who have observed the former relation existing between the master and slave, that it was for the interest of the master to take care of his slave, and that a case in which a master maltreated his slave was as rare as that in whi^h he maltreated his hor.-^e and perhaps eten more rare. There was the same motive. It was his property and his interest to take good care of it."

As a fitting commentary on the above we will mention the fact that among the leading rebels in the New York Conven tion was one the expenses of whose education were defrayed py the salo on the auction block of his half sister' tbe child of his own father by apiece of prop erty with whom he lived for many years in concubinage! Of course "a case in Which a master maltreated his slave was as- rare as that in which he maltreated hjs horse I" It was no outrage on horse -Kf either gender—to sell its young, that the reserved members of tbe flock might have hay and oats I

Why will the

strong and

able Democratic paper—says: "HOBATIO SETMOUR is the very antipodes of PENDLETON, and of the

PENDLETON

doctrine.

He is the man who has most ably and assiduously spoken and written against the greenback dodge."

The same Democratic authority also says: "VALLANDIGHAM bad no sort of call to be at New York. His antipodes is SEYMOUR, who antagonizes to him utterly, and yet his love of notoriety led hini not only to the place of slaughter but made him rejoice at the execution of bis o&me and candidate and section. Hi it w&!, of all men, who pressed th«.ap» parently reluctant SEYMOUR not to decline. When he gives advice hereafter, or asks any favor, he will open his eyes on what he has done. He should have allowed that constitutional marplot, Mr. MCCOOK, to monopolize the shame of volunteering t3 boot and spur a Jfao York capitalist, centraliser, and bondholder's fa. tvoriie for the saddle which he is expected to stride until all the producers of the

set their faces backwards towards the dark ages? Why will a party calling itself "Democratic," eternally brand its name with an infamous lie Why will the party which claims to be the champion of freedom spend its days and nights in bewailing the extinction of slavery and contriving means for its reestablishment? There is no room on Gods' green earth in this age of Light, Progress and Human Elevation for a party which shuts its eyes to Light, scorns Progress, hates Developement and glories in the barbarities of brutal men and A brutal age. Either the tide of Progress must stop tbe wave of advancing civilization be stayed and the Good Providenco of God swccomb and confess to defeat or •Ise the BOURBON Democracy must be •wept out of existence.

sighs for "the good old

days" of woman-whipping, baby-ped-dling, Devil-courting, God-defying Sla•try. He prepares a plan for the re-es-tablishment of that "Divine Inctitution'' through revolution and bloodshed,— through war, compared with which the late Democratic rebellion werebut a triv*, 1*1 affair. He submits this jri an of revolution to the Democratic Convention sayi»g: "This is my platform on it I wish to stand or fall "before, you." On this plan of revolution lie is nominated, and the Democracy thereby throw down the

gauntlet and say to the country. Wei will have war." Well, tbat party has given the country one war. Perhaps it would bo Won for the same party to try the experiment again.

Seymour and his Friends. Desiring at all times to nhsoivetnat courtesy which should characterize the conduct of political journals towards their opponents, we havo waited several days for the

Journal

lo publish the speech of

its Presidential candidate to the New York draft rioters. It is an important item of Democratic history and should appear in all Democratic papers but a3 our neighbor seenu to bavo no stomach for HORATIO we produce the document. Let it be remembered that this speech was delivered to a iNew York inob whose hands were red with the blood of murdered men and women—a mob that burned, pillaged, and rioted in the the streets of New York with a fury and cruelty that would have put to the blush the most brutal devils who over manned a pirati* cal vessel. Here is what HORATIO had to say to these "friends" of his on that occasion "My fiiends—I have come down here, from the quiet of tho country, to see what was the difficulty—to learn what all this trouble was concerning tho draft. Let me assure you that I am your friend. [Uproaiijus cheering.] You have been iny friends—[Cries of 'Yes, yes!' 'That's so! 'Wo are and will bo again!']—and now, I assure you, my fellow-citizens, that 1 am here to show you a test of ray friendship. [Cheers.] I wish to inform you that I have sent my Adjutant General to Washington to confer with the authorities there, and to have tbir. draft suspended and stopped. [Vociferous cheers 1 ask yoii as good citizens to wait for his return, and I assure you that will do all that I can to see that thero is no inequality and no wrong done to any one. 1 wish you to take good care of all proper^ ty as good citizens, and sen thai every person is safe. The safe-keeping of prop erty and persons rests with you, and I charge you to disturb neither, ll is yeur duty to maintain the good order of tho city, and I know you will do it. I wish you now to separate as good citizens, and you can assemble again wherever you wish to do so. I ask you to leave all to me now, and I will see to jTour rights.

Wait uotil my Adjutant returns from Washington, and you shall bo satisfied. Listen to me, and see that there is no Harm (lone to persons or property, but retire peaceably."

If there is a single base element, of hu man character wanting in that harrangue we fail to perceive it. Ratan, himsolf, could not have improved tha occasion to better advantage.

The Kegatta Season.

Almost simultaneously with the opening of "fashionable navigation," by the New York Yacht Club, and the inaugur-. ation of the new club hou3« on Staten Island, Lorillard has introduced his Yacht Club ISmoking Tobacco and Yacht Club Pipe. Both are specialities—tho tobacco being composed of the finest Virginia leaf, deprived of its nicotine, and the pipe being of the fioest quality ol meerschaum with a unique and tasteful design, repre^ senting a yacht "going largo"' before tho wind. Mr. Lorillard, who is a man of original ideas, and never does things by halves, has linked the new brand and its elegant receptacles together in a very pret-» ty way. Orders for tho pipos are placed in different packages of the brand daily, which orders, on being presented, entitle the lucky holders to a pipe each. The demand for Yacht Club Tobacco is already immense, and as it is an article of extraordinary merit, and can be smoked without inconvenience by persons who can use no other kind, it bids fair to rival in popularity the famous century brand manuiactured by the same time-honored house.—N,
