Several Democratic papers in this State are intensely disgusted because the graves of rebel soldiers were not decorat" ed last Saturday. Are the Democracy too mean to perform that ceremony in memory of their departed friends?, ^It would seem so.

Gentlemanly or ladylike travelers seldom find angentlemanly railroad officials.— There is competition enough among rail? road companies to insure respsctful treatment of their patrons, if there were no other reason for according it. Diplomatic Duelists,

The country very generally approves the action of the President, in removing A. G.Lawrence. United States Minister to Costa Rica, In accordance with the Tonura of Office law. Mr, Lawrence chose latterly to become a party to a duel which was fought in the District of Co' lumbia, his adversary being an officer of one of the foreign legations. Fortunately, the contost was bloodless, but that was apiece of good luck which did not change the moral aspect of the question. What the cause of this duel waSj has not been made public, but it is believed to have been some trTQing'matter which a man of common sense would not have noticed. The lajrs qJE the United States declare that fighting a duol is an offense, and such being the case, it is bad example in any public .officer to oxposo huuself to the conssquences.— Mr Lawrence has, therefore, been qui etly_._.nttt-..upon the shelf—an example much to bo eommonaed for its justice and influence upon others. 'Somebody, whose acquaintance is among the luxuries wfaichadverse fortune has denied us, but' who is, evidently, a lineal descendant of Betsy Trotwood's interesting friend, Mr. "Dick" of the celebrated "memorial" notoriety, has abused a considerable portion of his elegant leisure by writing a communication to

Had •Justice" been at all familiar with one the most generally understood rules journalism, he would have known that could not attain to immortality through our columns without so far reducing his charming modesty as to furnish us with his patronymic. We do not insist on a pedigree in such case3, have no ambition to ascend a family tree, but must be indulged with a knowledge of the name and local habitation of each and every aspirant for literary fame in the columns of the Express.

In every household the question is—how to reduce expenditures and the result is •efcy general complaints from the retail trado. This process of contracting expenses must go on yet further, until cons sumption is more evenly regulated by production and then we may-expect a healthier condition of trade. Tlrere must be, ere long, a diminished demand for labor, which will again work out a reduction in the cost of all products. There is reason to hope that this much needed reduction in the cost of tabor may be facilitated by an abundant harvest and cheaper food—a boon which would also tend to the general amelioration of the condition of trade. Business has still to battle ..ith the mischievous tendencies of-an inflated currency, and its concomitant fictiA tious fluctuations in prices.
