Serious Break in the Canal.—The rain of Tuesday night washed out the embankment of tho canal next to the river, a distance of one hundred feet, and some ten feet below tho bod of the canal. The break is about one hundred feet below the railroad bridgo and in the rear of W. B. Warren's pork house. The earth washed out within four feet of the pork house, and had the canal been full of water, the rear of the building would have been undermined and washed in. It is a very serious break and will take considerable time and money to repair it.
The Turner's Concert last evening was a success—bark of the footlights— and we are sorry to say the audience in front was not of such size as the merits of the varied and artistic performance de•erved. We were permitted to witness but a small portion of the entertainment,
but of that portion can say it was superior to anything of the kind ever presented in this city—especially the gymnastic exercises and tableaux of the Indianapolis Tvrners.
To-day the new Turner Hall will be dedicated with appropriate ceremonies, and this afternoon a grand gymnastic exhibition will be given, to all of which a general invitation is given. The pro
gramme of exercises will be found elsewhere.

remarks
"For eight years the country has been weighed down, by air oppressive taxation that has paralyzod^ the industry of the country. The Republican party is responsible for this.
We guess Mr. Edgerton has not been severely Sighed dowti by taxation, as he boasts that he has escaped "all taxes What .ever"- on -$188,000 of five-twenty bonds, although the law absolutely required him to pay five pei cent, of the interest re ceived upon them, as income tax.
We think, too, that the Republican party has precious little responsibility for the outrageous local taxation imposed on the people of Allen county by its Copperhead official*.
For county purposes the Democratic Commissioners of Allen county levy $1 60 on each one hundred dollars of taxable property, but the Hepublican Comm$sIo£ei'Sr '6f Marion httisty levy but thirty cents. Allen county at least needs a change of rulers.—/nd
