Troublesome claims.

A meeting of citizens of the United StAtes having claioiB upon Mexico for indemnitv for losses or injuries suffered up. on various occasions, by reason of Mexican faithlessness or weakness, has been held at New York Tbe parties attend

ing, complain that the Mexicans pay no attention to the requirements of justice and fair dealing, and that they cannot get a penny of what is due them. This is represented to be the more unpleasent to bear because Senor ROMERO, who the new Mexican Treasurer, pays no attention to the American claims, which he sup-

po«e?. can be postponed without trouble, and interests himself to pay off tho.^e iue to

Englishmen and Spaniards. It is, therefore, thought that there should be a little stimulus administered to Senor ROMERO, and his attention called to a style of discrimination which is not fair to our citi-

England and fipain may give Mexico trouble, and it is politic to satisfy their subjects so as to prevent such misfortune. But tho United States are supposed to be friendly to Mexico, and if one cannot use his friends, what is the u3e ..f having them Ue»ide, Henor ROMERO, no donbt has this matter all arranged with his good friend, Mr SKWART The latter, if appealel to, and asked t« anforce the American claims upon Mexico, would act as he did in the Alta Vela business, and discover that there was something in the law ofjnations, or in some treaty, which pave Mexico the right to cheat the United States with impunity.

There is much desire to have the question out of the way by taking the vote on the remaining articles on Tuesday. ™„jitiy The choice of Wilson or of Hamlin w»uld have been eQually acceptable to many, but the selection of no other candidatas than the one chosed, would have caused more general satisfaction. Speaker Colfax has ever been an unwavering and unfalteriflg Republican. He has no weak or vulnerable points in his character or political record. Every- act and utterance ef hia public life shows his deep convictions and bis unchanging faith_ in sound radical principles. Every public position he has been called upon to fill, he has filled with marked ability.

As a journalist ho was ranked as one of the first. After two years in Congress he won his way to the position of presiding officer of that body. For-a third time he has been re-elected Speaker, and as a pro siding officer has never been surpassed unless by Henry Clay. He is a gentleman of cultivation and refinement. By the pUntyof hii? private character, hi" genial manliars and by the sympathy he has shown with the loyal masses in their noblest aimi and aspirhtions, Colfax has gained a popularity greater perhaps than that any other man in civil life. ng iState in the Union.

Pomeroy wing of the party will not support any but a straight out rebel sympathizer, and it may be that Senator Hen. dricks will be tbe unlucky man after all However, it cannot be denied tUat the Chase movement exists in reality and ts gaining ground even in this State where Democracy exists in all its original purity. The Lawrenceburg Register, a -leading and influential jeurnal of that faith, says "It will be observed that our Wilmiagton corrospondent like many others favors the Homination ot Chief Justice Chase on the Democratic ticket for President There is a strong current setting In in his favor. We always give intelli* gent correspondents a wide range in the expression of their opinions but neither the Register, or its editor, is committed to any particular person for President, Mr. Chase has proven himself a Union man very much of our style, and has proven iavincible against the threats and sajolery of the party with which he several years ago affiliated, and particularly in tho impeaehment trial did he prove impartial and incorruptible, for all of which we honor and respect him, and could sup port him heartily if nominated."

"Wo venture to assort that'there is riot an instance in history where the popularity of a soldier or a statesman was so unlimited and unbounded as was that of Grant from the time of the capture of Tickaburg until he became the object of attacks from partizan newspapers in view of hia candidacy for the Presidency. Wellington had his enemies and detractors, Washington, Hamilton, Webster and Lincoln, were defamed and vilified while living, but during a period of uaore than two yoare General Grant was the idol of the American people--not one voice was raised against him. Hsi he done any thing since that time to forfeit the love and esteem of the people? Nothing.

The hase Movement

From tho IndiauapoIIa Jou»nal.j There is a frightful amount ot demoralization going on in the ranks of the Democratic party about this tirno. The acquittal of the President has secured the support and patronage of tne administra* tion in favor of tho nomination of Chief Justice Chase, at New York, on the fourth day of July. The Washington correspondednt of the Chicago Times say a: 'The Hon Daniel W. Voorhees, of Indiana, leading Democrat, has been busily en gaged "for some weeks urging tbe claims of Mr. Chase to the Democratic nomination." It is also suspected that Senator Hendricks is identified with the Chase movement, as he and the Chief Justice have become remarkably intimate of late. The Chicago Times has apparently deserted Pendleton and has always been violent in its opposition to Haacocte, who it says "anything but a soldier,' and its editor has not forgotten the abuse heaped upon him some months since for taking a stand in favor of univer sal negro suffrage, hence he desires to commit bis party to a candidate who^tandi square upon his platform. 2b tke Editor of the Evening Telegraph DCAB SIB,—For five or six years I h&ve been afflicted with dyspepsia in its most severe fornv I have been treated for it by some of the most able physicians in Montreal. From time to timq 1 placed myself under their treatment, ana after using an enormous quantity of medicine, felt myself only growing worse. My disease increased, appetite failed, was troubled with a sensation of pain, weight and fullness at the epigrastrium, costivenesa became depressing, my spirits grew low, causing great dejection. I triaa all kinds of advertised remedies to no purpose. My hopes of recovery began to fail, when at last I concluded to try Profeteor SrnrxxT'a new method of core. I am now a little over two months under tbe Professor's treatment, and am hajppy to say that I feel like a new man again, relieved of my distress, and enjoying life as In days gone by.

Every intelligent and thinking person must know that remedies handed out for general use should have their efficacy established by well tested experionea in the hands of a regularly educated physician whose preparatory studies fit him„foral! tbe dutlei he must fulfill yet thecounixv Is flooded with poor nostrums and. cujealls,"purporting to bo the best in the world, which are not only useless, but always injurious. The unfortunate should be parties lar in selecting his physician, as it is a lamentable yet incontrovertible factjfliat many patints are made miserable, with ruined constitutions by ami-treatment from inexperlouced physicians in general practice. The experienced general practloner, having neither opportunity por time to mako himself acquainted with their pathology, commonly pursues olfe system oflreatment, in mOst cases making an indiscriminate use of that antiquated and dangerous weapon, Mercury.

All who hare committed an excess pf any kind, whether it be the solitary vjc6 of youth, or the stinging rebuke of misplaced confidence in rnaturer years, seek: for an antidote in Reason.
