The Township Elections. The returns of the elections held

throughout our State, during tho present

week, for township officers, resulted very

favorably ,t& the Republican party. The

voto throughout the entire State was light, numerically, as is commonly the

cuse at our annual April elections. At a

few points there were municipal officers

chosen on the same day on which the

towcshiji elections occurred. The city -elections, however, for the most part,

went off on local issues of one sort or an

other and were so few as to determine

nothing as to the general political feeling. The Democracy have been loud in the

ory that the "great national reaction" was

operating in our State and would be

heard from in the April elections. Timid Republicans would have been led, from

tho tone of tho Democratic journals du

ring the past few weeks, to have supposed

that their partj' was about to be swallowed up and their adversaries resume their

power in the State, as the anticipated re

sult of the present week's elections.

This has. hu^ever, not been the case.— The "grand reaction'' has not been visi

ble. Its coming will bo postponed until

tho State election in October. The gene

ral rosult of Mondny's election through*

out tho State is about as usual, and does not indicate any change in the relative

strength of tho political partief. So far

a* hoard from the returns indicate an in

crease in the number of Republican to.wn-

ship trustees, which augurs well for our

purty in tho approaching State campaign.

This result, too. was accomplished in the

face of strenuous efforts on the part of the Democracy to poll a large vote, and make sure of tbe election of tlieir men wherever

practicable. a general thing the Republican voto was light, for no special ef

fort had been made to rally the party.—

TIIA

indications uf the present week's work are favorable lor a triumphant Republi

can victory in tbe Fall, and we look for

ward to this result a certainly as to the coming of tho election day.

Now I ask in the name of common sense, why not devote a little Christain cure to separating from its abuses and regulating in its conduct, an exercise which improves the bearing of our youth, tends to relieve their natural awkwardness in society, and

The^xtensive nse of these Watches by Railway Conductors, Engineers, and Xxpresamea, the moat exacting clasi of watch-wearers, has thoroughly demonstrated tha strength, steadiness,^durability and accuracy of the Waltham Watch. Ta satisfy that class in all tbeee respects is to decide tha qnention as to the real valne of theee timekeepers.

More thaa 500,000 are speaking for thamsalvss in the pockets of tha paopls. Imported Watches are made an an expensive syttem, in snail nnmbors, but by numerous makers, and are placed, in tbe market here by an Importer who Bret secure* a MONOPOLY OF BALI Or SOMI OVK XANU

FAOTUBS.

To the Manufacturer'a. profit mast be added Oestof Importation. A Custom-house duty of ii per cant, payable In Oold.

A profit of at least 86 par cent, to tbe Importer, another profit to thejobber thus nearly doubling the cost of the Imported watch.

At Waltham, Watches are manufactured ea a largo scale, under one roof and system of supervlsion and management, thereby saving many of the expenses necessarily Incurred la small establishments henee their great cheapness.

All ronpectable dealers now sell Waltham Watche* and competition, as all the world kaows. Is favorable to smal profitv. Tha trade i« satlsfle.', becanse, though the profit on eaoh Wateh is •mall, tha demand t* largo aad all are saleable^

TJnssrup jlous Importers occasionally place a worthleea Swiss imitation Is the market. To avoid Imposition, the purchaser should invariably demand a certificate of genuineness, signed by tho treasurer of the American Watch Company—B. K. BOBBINS.

There are different grades of finish Is the different varieties of Watcbea made by the Waltham Company, as ther are different cists and s-.iap«a to suit all tastes and moans but every Watch that bears the pranaine trade mark of "WALT.
