Forty ThoaMnd Dollars' Worth of .Papers Foand In an OM Stup.
[Froia the West Tennessee Whig.] On last Sunday evening a son of E
Trice, of this city, was playing in a lot in the rear of hia father's residence, and but a short distance from the Mobile & Ohio railroad depot, he discovered a piece of paper projecting from the top of an old decayed stump. It happened that a revenuo stamp was attached to that portion of the paper exposed, which attracted the attention of the little fellow, who is not more than eight years old, and caused bim to "go for it," as he imagined it was a piece of fractional currency. Pulling tbe paper from its partially imbeded position, bc^discovered that there were others buried further down in the loose trash with which the stump was filled. Gathering up all the papers bo had found, be carried them home and showed them to his father, to whom)he told the story of their discovery. Mr. Trice saw at a glance tbo great value oftho papers, and immediately repaired to the spotjwbere tbey were found, and insitituted a mere thorough search, which resulted in bringing to light two more papers, one of them a note fot a large amount,
Through tbe ktridiilte* Of Mr. Trice and Mr. "W. D. Clark, agjnt of the express company in uus city, in whose liands the papers hard been placed for safe keeping, we were permitted to examine them all, and here gfvb description important:
