la tbe commercial world, there? is, a law, or order of things'somewhat*ft®Ft»is sort. Ifjunan gets what has al^e and willing to pay for of course he steal, filch or cheat, and so get whai he canpot or will not pay for. YetTa^»¥ honest, business transactions, this law lies at the basis. If a man is able or willing— jt matters not which—to pay but ten dollars fqr. a coat, he must be cpoieni »with coarse material or a flimsey imitation of thefine. If he can and will pay forty or fifty dollars he may clothe himself very respvctfully if a hundred dollars, then be may wear the heaviest and most durable beaver, or the finest broadcloth. This same law which runs through all business transactions extends farther, or rather hus its origin deeper down Than the business tPias&cti&is .between man and map. '.It is the law under which God has placed man in this world. Endowed with physical, mental,, and proral powers, and hav ing opened'before Idm a' vast stori-house of physical, mental ani moral goods of all sorts and grades, man is'bidden to take his choice, and he may, have anything for wfiich.-he is able and willing^ to pay for. and usually his ability far exceeds his Willingness. If a" low- degree oflA&Mi in life satisfies—A lifalittle 'raised above the animal—he can get it at-a £h&p rate. But if it is to be a life of th§ic«cbesi war pa ad wrof,«lifinwhich shall win honest idmiraticm! from all be holders, one which shall give tire greatest comfort to its possessor and which shall not gfowirusty," thread-bare^':* with age, a life which 'Sven the ddathdamp and wprm tif the grave, o^HnQt destroy, then a corresponding price must be paid—and the coin in: this -reafm is Work. True, there must be fri^aJ^ ^n| temperance andrphs)sUty, ijbfse,. important as_ thej arfc, are not the c»in.— They are rather box^wood and cedar that k?ep put the vermin Wbi6h wouldyiBstfoy or they are parts of-that complicated and wond^tfulibt^c whiph k^pff thit'bld thief,. the^^Devil, from the treasures already acquired, or from the funds, aoc'umuiaT^il for the purchase of these treasures. But these1 great vif.tdes^without whicli' the Devil will break in and steal all success^ these alone cannotgive the' highest success. Many men who are perfectly moral—many truly christian men, fail of any great success in life, they fall almost Infinitely short of what they might or ought to be. And it is because the mistake, the safe-guards of success, tot the means of producing it—the lock which protests the gold for the gold itself. It would do nothing which shall,in any degiyee^Jfl^ert your respect for good morals, for temperance, chastity, frugality and the like virtuesr they are absolutely essential io success fn life but added1 to these, there must he—must is the word—there must be Work. This is the producing, or purchasing power—this is the legal currency.
