Vigo Republicans Endorse the
State Ticket.
it ai They Sustain CongrSs and Endorse Impeachment,
riTit'i I 2* At this'eaWy stage in the campaign, so far in advance of Presidential nomina* tions, and in a community not peculiarly liablaio prematureexcUament, itry waft not expected by the most enthused Unionists that the ratification meeting on S^uidfyjifterii^^cw^qltrjct V|rfe attendance. The densely packed Court, Room andt*thWfs:df earnest Republicans'
capacity of the place selected for the meeting, were, therefore,-an agreeable surprise. Hon. John G. Crain called the meeting to order, and* on his motion Col, T. Nelson was called to the chair, accepting: the compliment with~a few brief but pertinent remarks, in which he tookocaaeion to felicitate* the Republican party upbn the auspicious opening of the great campaign of 1868, and the prospect of a glorin ous triumph under the leadership 51 Gen. Grant. He also alluded to the impeach^ ment of-the President and congratulated the country upon.- the probability cf the speedy removal of Ihe greatest impediment to reconstruction and to the peace, happiness and prosperity of the country.
He promise to make an earnest and energetic canvass as one of the Senatorial electors on our ticket, which we doubt not will be fulfilled to tho letter. ^G. W- Lambert, Esq., Secretary of the Grant Club," was requested, by vote of the meeting, to discharge the duties of that office.
On motiota of J. O. Jones, Esq., it was ordered that a committee ot five be appointed by the chair to prepare and present resolutions expressive of the sense of the meeting. The Chair designated Messrs. Jones, JatfteS', Brown, Kizer and Pegg as said committee.
The preliminary business havings been disposed of Col.R. W. Thompson proceeded to deliver a masterly argument on tke political issues 'of the day. We regret our inability to present, the speech entire in this morning's issue, having taken. full notes for that purpose but at such a time as this it is particularly important^that our distinguished public speakers^ should not be misrepresented, and to avoid the possibility of pq doing we defer the publi cation of Col. Thompson's address until he shall have, been able to examine our manuscript, which, it is hoped, jvilT not occasion a delay of more than one day iV?h|o, jge say that scores ef men .who have heard Col.- Thompson frequently during a period, of more than .twenty years
stood

attention, for more than three hours without a single. ihaoifestatitfh.. of W^arirf^Bi, those who were not so fortunate as to bis present will have some icfea &f the "feast of reason" which was spread for the eager crowd in attendance. ...
At the conclusion of the tpefecb, J. O .Jones, Esq., from the Committee on Resolutionfe," presented the following,-the en thusiastic and unanimous adoption of, which was a fitting close to a most inter estjwg. andprofitable pi&ating:

the candidates there nominated,
our unfted support and that we-will labor as an organization and as individuals, to promote their election to .the -several offices for which they were nominated.
Resolved,
That in the present crisis of
National affairs,. We will lay aside all difforencfB'Of opinion on minor matters and side issues, and all personal bickerings and animosities, and will go into the coming canvass and labor as vn did in 1864,^0 defeat the party which pronounced the war a failure, and which has ever sought to make it.so by its open affiliation of sentiment ancKactioq with the rebellion, and by its persistent efforts to belittle the cause for which so many brave men were sacrificed, so many homeB desolated, and such a burden of debt and taxation entailed upon the country.. .,
