A Conservative Speech.

The

American Union

of January 24,

published at Griffin, Ga., prints the annexed speeches, which are introduced as follow*:

Last Saturday night we were present at the meeting of the 'Conversative Club" in the City Hall. The style of conduct^ iog the meeting, the sentiments exprosed, in fact everything of the doings of the rebel Democratic Constitutional Conservative political gatherings are stereotyped and seeing and hearing once gives one a full knowledge of all they have done in preceding or will do in subsequent sessions. It is the same play, the same cast of* characters a repetition in all respects. To give a faint idea, we introduce—

Mr. Fitch. Fellow citizens, I tell you thut the negroes area bastard race, decended from Ham and a female baboon. hep cannot live injthis country,Jonly on their own level. I don't softsolder them, sir they can't be my equals. They may, vote once or twice more under the pro-" tection of the military, but after that, sir tbey will not vote! I aay they will not vote sir! They can't come to the ballotbox except they wade through blood!

Tremendous cheering of the people This we heard at the orgradization of the club.

Saturday night Judge John D.Stewart delivered himsolf thusly: "I never will submit to the United States Congress. It is an illegal body I will light it to the death. "We muat never acknowledge the negro menagerie in Atlanta they will oppress us they will grind usj^thoy will disfranchise every man who was in the Confederate army, I speak advisedly Mr. Hopkins told me so. This Georgia, stinking, mean, low, contemptible, infamous, carpet-bag, nigger, Yankee Radical convention are sworn to destroy us—to deprive us of our rights. "Will we allow it"

Cries of "never! neverl" Here followed a shower of Jepithets, vituperation, malignity, insult, invectives, slander, contumely profanity, damnation, hell and the devil, on the heads of convention supporters, convention members, Radicals, Congress, Pope, Meade, &c "Fellow citizens, organize! I urge to organize! Re ready fsr the worstl siut thia government, resist this convention, resist everything, and stand up for your manhood and your rights!"

Thundering cheers. The Judge went on to say: "Frown the nasty, stinking Radical! out of your community—don't let thsm live her#."

1

Yes! yeel" from thecrowd. In conclusion he urges the people to organize to vote, and if necessary to fight, and never to reconstruct nnder the constitution to be made by the convention.

Bates county, according to the record furnishes the following romance of wonder* ful love, surpassing the story of Hero and Leander:

About the year 1868, in the northeast part of Bates county there lived a fair young lady by the name of Trancis, who was the object of much admiration on the art of some of the gallant youths of that ay. About that time a young man became acquainted with her, and he, like some others had frequent business in that direction after a while their acquaintance ripened into what they conceived to be real love, and accordingly they were married.

Everything went on smoothly until after they had been married about seven months, when she began to get tired of the new life, and consequently left the hospitable roof of the unfortunate young man, leaving him to cook his own grub, mend his own clothes, 4c. She straightway wont to the town of Butler, and mads application for a divorce, which on account of the late war, was deferred until since the reorganization in this coun ty, when the Hon. —, attorney at law, succeeded in procuring a bill of divorce for the lady. After she had obtained the document required, she again fell deeply in love with the same man, and, after a new and lengthy courtship, they wore again married, vnd are once more living under the same numble shelter. So ends the double courtship and marriage of Mr. Ageoand.Miss Pranais, all of Bates county, Mo
