(ST The Festivals gotten up by the ladieB of the Universali9t Church are always pleasant occasions, and that of last evening was no exception to the rule.— Partaking more of asocial gathering than of a festival proper, every one of the assemblage enjoyed with a zest the kindly greetings and tho many good things to tickle the palate.

Macallister To-Night.— Professor and Madame Macallister inaugurate their season of six nights at Dowling Hall this evening. Their programme is replete with now, brilliant and beautiful features, The wunderful feat entitled "The Couch of tho Angels of the Air" will be performed ia addition to many other new feats and experiments. One hundred presents will be given away every night. Gift Matinee on Saturday, Feb. 1st, when every child will receive a handsome present.

gjjf An attempt on the part of Sheriff Kizer's boarders to break jail has fortunately been nipped in the bud. Sunday evening while inspecting the prison, as is cuBtomary every twenty-lours, the fasten ings of two cells were found nearly sawed off, and a steel saw about one foot long was also found. It was evidently the intention of the prisoners to break from their cells Sunday night, raise a stone in the floor and dig under the outside walls of the prison. The prisoners were put upon a fast from Sunday noon until last evening in the hope that somo of them would reveal the leaders of the plot, and also by whose agency the saw come in the prison,

We learn from Trustee Naylor

that all the members of the Board of Registry in this township will meet at the Northern Liberty Engine House next Monday morning, and will then proceed to the several places heretofore appointed, and after concluding the registry in their respective precincts will again re* port at the same place. This proceeding will make the registry legal, without doubt. Tho school trustees having refused the use of the school houses, the vo-. ters in tho Second Ward will register at S. T. Reece's carpenter shop in the Third Ward at Thompson's carpenter shop and in the Fifth Ward at the office ot McKeen & Eshman's lumber yard.

Lyne & Lawes.—We ask particulai attention to tho card of this new firm, located on Main street near the corner of Seventh, where they have just opened an establishment, for the sale of Agricultural Implements and pure Kentucky Copper-Distilled Whisky. They will also buy and sell on commission, merchandise and prpduee of all kindsl The senior partner of the firm has recently come to our city to make this his permanent place of residence, and has every appearance of a prompt, reliable, energetic business man, as well as a courteous gentleman Mr. Thomas E. Lawes, our City Councilman, the other member of the firm, is well and favorably known to our community. We wish the new firm success.

Exhibition given by Mount Rose Lodok I. O. G. T.—The above mentioned entertainment was worthy an earlier mention, but we have been uhable to hear from it sooner.

It was held on Tuesday evening, the 21st, in one of the upper rooms of the new school house situated in the souths eastern suburbs of the city.

At an early hour the room was fllledi and at the commencement of the exer, cises, standing room could hardly be ob tained.

We will be unable to make separate mention of the pieces comprising the well selected programme suffice to say that they wore well committed and executed in a highly creditable manner.

The proceeds, which far exceed the expectations of the managers, are to be appropriated toward the fitting up and furnishing of one of the rooms, as a hall for tho use of the order.
