It is said that farm labor is worth from $4 to $8 per month in Virginia and $6 in the Carolinas.
Gov. Orr recommends ample provisions for the education of both races in South Carolina.

The Legislature of Maine on the 22nd, chose delegates at large to the Bepubli« can National Convention, and adopted a resolution in favor of Gen. Grant as the candidate for the party for President.
Gov. Orr is noj, a voter, and yet the South Carolina Convention sought his counsel in their work. He advised, them, among many good things, to enfranchise all alike, on the basis of intelligenbe and property.
Thad. Stevens stated in the House, Monday, that under the name of "stationery'' some members had procured pantaloons and shirts enough to last them for years, and that some members had run up a stationery account of $1,0001
TueBelmont (Ohio) Chronicle gives the following as the weight of six citizens who happened in a grocery together in that alaee 234, 270, 228}, 212, 227, 251}. They must be the heavy men of that section.
The Buston Journal thinks that even when constructed on £hatf0ongression al plan, five of the Southeren States will be Republican and five Democratic, to-wit: South Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana and Florida will cast twentythree Republican electoral votes while Virginia, North Carolinia, Georgia, Arkansas and Texas will cast thirty Democratic votes'.

Girls, do you want to get married, and do you want good husbands If so cease to act like fools. Don't take pride in say* ing you never did homework, never cooked a chicken, never made abed and so on. Dpn't turn ap your pretty noses at honest industry—never tell your friend that you are^tot obliged to work. When you go shopping, don't take your mother with you to carry the bundle.
The various reports presented to the Odd Fellows' Grand Lodge of the United States snow that the order in 1867 embraced 2,800 lodges, with 214,561 members, and that during the year there were 35,021 members initiated, and2,264 members died. The receipts for the year were $2,020,111, and of this $692,629 were paid for charitable puposes, there having been 2,026 brethern and 3,141 widowed families relieved by the encampments, which number 697, and have 34, 812 members, all of which, however, are also members of the lodges.
The SentineLon the*Border, which emgrated from Evansville to Niles, Michigan, and since removed to Louisville is still alive. Kietolf, in his last issue, gives his Presidential preferences as follows:
We are for the statesman who receives the Democratic national nomination, be he Pendleton, Seymour, of Connecticut, Seymour of New York, Yallandigham, Yoorhees, President Johnson, Sidney Breese, Dan. Rice, General Robert E. Lee, John C. BreeRenridgeJJJefferson Davis, or J. Wilkes Booth I If the latter is not at home we'll send a ship aver for him.
It is'utfderstood that Gen. Breckinridge is prevented from returning to the United States by the fact the he' is too proud to ask for a pardon, while the President waits until it Is asked for. This is a very good reason why Gen. Breckinridge should be living, out-at-elbows, in Paris but can it be true that Gen. McClellan alto is waiting for a pardon before venturing to return? What has delayed his recently announced forward movement? Is there lack of transportation beteea Paris and Havre? Does he need re-en-forcemerits? Is he waiting to run as Vioe-Pre8ident witb Pendleton?
Or»e of the niost popular officers with old soldiers of the Western Army is Gen. GEORGE H. THOMAS. In the recent National Convention of the Army of the Republie, which recommended Gen. GRANT for President, a very strong feeling in favor of General THOMAS was manifested, and should anything occur which would make it enadvisable to nominate GRANT, the old hero of the Army of the Cumberland will be strongly pressed by the soldiers of the West. There is no braver co'.dier or truer patriot than Gen. THOMAS, and he is entirely sound upon the political issues of the nation.
The Zanesville Gourier gIVes tho foling account of an attempt, several'" years ago, to turn a batch of the old, worn-out notes of the Bank of Zanesville. Dr. Rhodes, the President, was the instrument in theoase: A file was burning in the large grate in the banking room, and into it the Doctot threw a large bundle of the astes, which, not, being tied together, were drawn up through the chimney %nd out at the top, nearly four stories high. A high wind was blowing at the time, and the bank notes went sailing off in every direction, like so many paper kites. The Doctor made a rush into the street, in time to see the flight of the bills, and then industriously set himself to work to gather up what he could find. The bills were distributed in all-parts of the town, and the amount the bank lost was never known by the public.
Tho Geauga (Ohio) Democrat gives an account of a birthday party for an old lady named Welton, living in that neighborhood, who is youthful and brisk at the age of 100 years. The Democrat says: Mrs. Welton's extreme age, to which few attain, adding thirty years morejthan the appointed three score and ten, and about thrice the average of human life, is not more remarkable than-her health of body, vigor of tnind and youthfulness of spirit. She stillxeads with interest the news ot the day, and her greatest trouble is the fashions and follies of this fast-going age. Two days after the party at Mr. Mermen's, the matron of. a hundred years rode with her son to Collamer, a distance of twenty-eight mile?, in a sleigh, without stopping and without unusual fatigue. At night she retired no earlier than the rest of the family, and the next morning she resumed her knitting—her usual employment—with as much eest as ever.
