itir.!.-?*- ",U.j Bbasil Iron Woreb.—It
is announced
in the Braeil local paper that tbe blast furnace in that village is temporarily .aus. pelided for want of waiefj'jponsidctiog that tbe works of tbe lndianap6)is Furnace and Manufacturing Company, coat over $100,000, wo should suppose tUat this suspension was a big thing. Tbe fact of the matter is that Bratit can never be an important manufacturing point, for tbo simple reason of a lack of water. I^be nearest point on the railroad where there is a running stream is Reelsvllie. Tbe nearest point is Bowling Green, but that is off the railroad. Still it is only six miles below tbe line of tbe block edal fields. Bowling Green would be a good point to locate furnaces,
provided
that the
companies who have leased the cool lands for the pa9t few years would fulfllHbeir contracts but they have not. Thfse companies promised to run railroads connecting Bowling Green witb other proinim nt towns, and this promise, in fact, formed a part of the lease. Not 09a cdndition of the leasee, which covers over 3D,000 acres of the best coal lands in Clay county, has thus/for been fulfilled The honest Democratic farmers, who have been blinded by these leases from wealthy Eastern capitalists, are informed that tho leases are not worth the paper they ire written on. The9e wealthy arialocratia promised lo run a railroad to Asbbojro' and Bowling Green, south, and to tjbe Cabbage settlement, north, intersecting all tbe coal fields, in a certain time. They have done nothing of the kind, not paid one cent of royalty, and tbe leases are therefore broken. Let the farmers 'of Clay county attend to this, and not allow themselves toba swindled. Each acrei of coal land in Clay county is Worth $840, at ten cents per ttfri for the coal. Why should not the formers revise, what ^be coal sells for at the furnaces—$3 30 per ton--instead of being swindled by a set of grasping speculators The Xfferenco would be millions of dollars.
The result of the whole matter will be, that in a short time, their blast furnaces that were to make Brazil great as a manufacturing point, will be removed to Indianapolis and Terre Haut». Indiana^-* oils has the shipping facilities, the waterpower, and tbe capital, Terre Haute is tbe great center of tbe carboniferous i~e-, gion of coal, and has also the water-pows er ahd the capital. Either of these points, or both, will control the iron manufactures of Indiana. It has been demonstrated that Brazil block coal would make pound for pound. In other woW*, one pound of coal will smelt an ejual proportion of ore. Hence, as tbe ore has to:be brought from Lake Superior from mines, or from the Iron Mountain, 01 Pilot Knob, of Missouri, it is immaterial whether the ore is transported to the coal or the coal to. the ore. The great profitable idea is cheap transportation. $hat can be furnished by the» Wabash, at Terre Hauto, or by the railroads frdm the Ohio river, at Indianapolis. There i* a ^covincial feeling at Braeil that would kill anything.— So soon as the denizens of that burg ascertained lhat the company, which had invested one hundred thousand dollara in their village to make it something besides

The people of Bra» zil have killed the "gocee that laid the golden egg."
Tbe President of tbe Terre Hauta Railroad has offered to transport coal from Brazil to Terre Haute, for tbirty-flve oents per ton. Thj^ptfoAleiif TetreBiiM are alive in this Quiu&r, Iixroffer to aonate lands to build up iron works.
