IV The letter list is generally a bone of contention in a town where two or more papers are published, but we believe it is genorally awarded to tho paper having the largest circulation in the range of the post-office delivery and then very poorly paid for. But when public journal does that work for nothing and thereby deprives its neighbors of the small compensation allowed by the government we think it a |»or way of advancing the interest of the newspaper business.—Marshall

Forefather's Day and John GrOUgh.
Journal
I find communi
cations grossly criticising the celebration of Forefather's Day and the lecture of John B. Gough. The one on Forefather's Day was written evidently by a person wholly devoid of any good principle, and so shameless in the matter of veracity that his own wife and children—if lie has any disbelieve his accusations. Thinking
