Sketch ofKlcbartl Weaver the Popular PrcacUer and Converted PrizeFighter. New York Correspondence oftlie Boston Journals
Bichard Weaver, the converted prizefighter and collier, ia one of the most remarkable men in England. Before his conversion he was ignorant, brutal and a terror to his neighborhood. His first set after his reformation wag to drive a Bible van within the enclosure of a horse-race, and taking off his coat and handkerchief, went to work, selling Bibles and singing sacred songs, undaunted amid threats of personal violence, till he actually broke up tho gambling booths and spread consternation among the revelers. Be is now one of the most persuasive and eloquent preaahers in England. Popular alike in the cities, he can crowd the largest theatres, overflow tho largest churches, and, among the miners, colliers and operatives in factories, ho can count bis audiences by thousands when ho preaches in the fields. His graphic story# telling style of presenting divine truth, the thrilling personal incidents in regard to himself and his experience, his peculiar style of relating anecdotes, and withal his ability as a singer, for he intersperse"! -his sermons with touching songs, make him one of the most attractive speakers in England. He wears a gray suit of clothes that he may not prejudice those who will not hear a clergyman preach. His great success has not turned his head or clouded the simplicity of character which haa marked him for so many years. He has the full confidence of the churches, and ministers of ovorj name invite him to tieir pulpits. A layman of this city, very devoted and very wealthy, has gone to London for the fdrpone of bringing "Weaver to this country. Between Weavar's desire and this gentleman's ability the arrangement will be made, and Weaver will no doubt be heard by our people between thi6and the early spring.
Extraordinary Eruption of Coal. The Hartelpool correspondent of a Leeds Journal states that an extraordiu. ary eruption of coal has taken plaon on the beach between West Hartlepool and Seaton Crow. These sands, which are the resort of visitors during the bathing season, were on Wednesday week metamorphosed to a great extent into a coal field. It will be remembered that last winter, immediately following a North Sea gale, the poor of the Hartlepool assembled on these sands on tho occasion ot the sea disclosing a vast amount of treasure trove, which had beon buried for forty years. At that time tho "scene" was something extraordinary, and many a hungry family were nourished during the severe winter by the lucky discovery of hundreds of Spanish dollars.

WITH SPECTACLES
The scene on Wodncsday weok was l'nr more interesting, and the upheaving of such an amount of one o( the most important necessities of life, by tho angry ocean, witl be productive of much more benefit and comfort to tho poor of the neighborhood. It is computed that not less than ,000 tons of coal have been cast upon these sands. From an early hour in the morning thoboach presented most animated appearance. Nearly every curt in town has been called into requisition to carry away tbe treasure, and on the banks adjoining, railway heaps were made, some of them carrying from ten to fisteeu tons of coal. The poorer inhabitants of the town turned out with barrows, baskets, sacks, &c, and every description of receptacle which could be rendered available to gather the cast up treasures.

It was rcado in a fountain in agardeo, the middle of four walks, nil covered overhead with lemon and orange tr#e* and in overy walk wa3 a table, the whole length of it, covered with cold collations, &e. In tho said fountain were the following ingrodients, viz.: lour hogshead of brandy, eight hogsheads of water, 25,009 of lemons, 20 gallons of lime juice, 1,300 weight of tine whitejLisbon sugar, five pounds of gratod nutmegs, 300 toasted biscuits, and last a pipe of dry Mountain Malaga. Over the fuuntain was a largo canopy built to keep oif the rain and there was built on purpose a little boat, wherein was a boy belonging to the fleet, who rowed around tbe fountain and gave tbe cups to tbe company more ban 6,000 men drank thereof.
Paying for Their Fun.
Three young Grant county, Kentucky, chaps, wanting to spend one of the holidays agreeably, took their guns and start ed'out birding. They were unlucky, finding nothing to shoot at. Nearing a farmhouse, they saw some boys chasing a cat with a dog. The chase was too excising for the sportsmen, so they banged away at cat and dog, and roared with delight to see them tumbling over. While enjoying the success of their first show, the farmers wife, with rifle in hand, and her two boys, with revolvers, appeared, and a demand was made on tbe sportsmen for five dollars for shooting the dog. As their guns were empty, thoy were glad to get off by forking over the amount de-

Disgraceful Affair.
I A very disreputable 6ccurrfenc» took j^Jaceat a country church, ejght milei outside this city, on Tuesday evening "last. A revival had been in progress, at the church, and twelve Cenverts had been ta' ikon into the fold, when at the time sta ted, a company of rude and reckless young men, disguised themselves into the shape of horse#, and with sleigh bells and harness ftttftchcdj broke into tfra house of worship just as the minister was opening the services with ah appeal to tbe throne of grace. The scene presented was decidedly fantastic. Horses with pastoboardjheads, flowing manes and bushy tails of flax, and bodies and necks covered with*bells, sprang over tbe seats and rushed up the aisles in a roost threatening manner. The minister broke off the thread of his discourse to the throne and besought the intruders to leave the house.
They left, but the services were no sooner resumed, than they returned, and set up ia hideous neighing and pawing, mingled with such a requiem of jingling bells, ias was never before heard in such a place.
At this second intrusion the preacher became utterly disgusted, dismissed his congregation, and left the scene of his dia comflture.—Richmond
