When business is dull, that is the very time to advertise. In the first place, that is the very time when you most need to advertise and in the second, that is when people devote most time to reading the newspapers, and when your advertisement, consequently, is most generally seen. How TO AVOU) AILBOAD ACCIDENTS —The recent railroad disasters, and espe-
1 awakened attention to the necessity of aomo method for their prevention. The
tfgf A Massachusetts Yankee has gtt greatest attention is paid to the prevention up a chicken factory. He can hatch eggs more economically without than with the aid of the hen. A box divided into stories for spreading out the eggs, and a lamp to keep the temporature at 80 to 100 degrees, constitute the apparatus. The heat it communicated to the box by pipes, and four cents worth of oil per day will hatch seventeen dozen healthy chickens out of as many eggs. But how to raise them after tbey are hatched is an important question.
offirW' from the stove, and the systems propo*se3 are numerous and may yet be made practical. Almost every one has hia favorite theory, the last of which, published sa a Buffalo paper, is as follows:
Let the Toof be loose and unattached to the sides o! the car by any fastenings whatever, but secured in its place on the top of the car by means of a groove along the top and end and sides of the car, say two or three inches deep let the roof be made in divisions, say five or six feet wide, at each end of these divisions let there be an iron flange or tenon fit easily into the groove. The roof would not be in the least affected by the jolting or oscillation of the cars, but the moment that it fell on its sides, the roof would fall flat on the ground, and leave the passengers to walk or orawl out.
The idea is worthy the attention of the pufrliQ, 'i

letter box. As non ame accompanied it, we are fain to believe that one or both of the teachers belong in this city. It would be just like some of them:
We heard of a happy incident which occurred during the session of the State Teachers' Association in this city last week. It seems that two of the teaches, one a mate, the other fsmale, havihg heard that Bayard Taylor once said that a view from the hills bank of the city was aa finQ as any he had Overseen in his travels, concluded to ascend the knobs and tee for themselves. After much puffing and blowing they reached, the summit, when they sat down to rest and behold. The scene was .truly beautiful to them, and it was doubtless very pleasant, a« the gentleman would pause ever and* anon to imprint a fond kiss upon the ruby lip* of his fur companion. This little by-play was not intended for other eyes, save those of the fair recipient yet nevertheless, it was witnessed by an innodsnt party, who stood

spellbound at no great distance from the scene. Soma time had been spent in this delightful entertainment, when the parties returned to this city, and confirmed all that Bayard Taylor had said about the handsome view.
The moral of this o'er tru# atdry is a good one. Young gentlemen and ladies, fond of looking at beautiful things from elevated places, should be caialul lert Kme one not afar off is as well entertained as

Buffalo.—Mr.

Ho found the quarter bloods to be 1 larger than either parents—made excellent beef, hardy, long-lived oxen, with great strength and activity and, though he did not teat tho milking qualities of the cows, he found that their calves that run wit.h the cows were fatter than those of, the common stock. Mr. James P.Swain, of Bronsville, N. Y., had a half-breed cow, which be lately killed, and the editor of the
