We direct attention of those inter

WHAT IT COBTS.—Many
persons who
appear before the Mayor and are subjeoted to a fine of say one dollar, are often as-, tonished to find that the "costs" are the largest portion of the bill. For general information we mention that the bill is made up of first, tbe fine, usually from one to live dollars, which goes to the eity treasury fees to witnesses, fifty oents each, docket fee of two dollars, which goes into the pocket ef the City Attorney $1,50 to the Marshal, and Mayor's fee of $1,50. The latter goes to the city treasury. If the prisoner pleadB, "not guSty" and is, the City Attorney gets tWo dollars additional for "convincing" the Mayor of the fact.
