The Ibi|ian^ delegation ia the House of Representatives voted as a unit in fa. vor of tbe resolution depriving tbe Secretary of the Treasury of the power of cancelling Jcga^tecders. The unanimity of the* House en this measure may be taken jas index of its speedy passage by the Sonate. It is a move in the right direction on tb« financial question.

THE Cincinnati of Monday, contains a searching review of the late report of tho" S6Cr*t«ry of the Treasury from the pea.of 5. D- MANSFIELD. It is too long for our columns. It pretty effectually "closes out" "Mr. MCCXTLLOCH on some of his strong points. It would have been muohibetter for the nation if tbe latter gentleman bad confined his talents to banking i% Indiana iqstead qf tanaperng wilh'tbe flnahsessf ftie nation.

The remainder of tbe Indiana delegation on the Republican side, to-wit: Messrs. COSUKN, EUNTKR, OBTH, JUJLU», SHAKXS and WILLIAMS all voted with tbe minority in favor of the impeeebmfnt. The Speaker, Mr. COLFAX, did not vote, nor does he ijXjiept- in case of equal division of the House. will accept a nomination for the Presidency. His intimations on that subject, however, lead to the belief that he will not be put in nomination by any other than the Republican party. He baa not com* mitted himself fully U* any course of action in regard to the Presidency and seems to be determined to keep tbe country in suspense on this subject. If he turns out to be a Bepublican be will probably have tbe nomination of that party and be elected as our next President. In common with the whole coun* try we are content to wait and see what we shall see.

THE Democracy often throw out good hints as to party rcan&gement and Be pu' licana would do well to act upon them. The Cincinnati Enquirer suggests to the Ohio State'Democratic Convention the use of grrat care in the -selection of candidates for Presidential electors It enforces the suggestion by saying that the candidates for electors should not only be true and reliable as partisans but capable of making an effective canvass and thus adding materially to the canvassing ability of tbe State. The suggestion is a good one and we hope it will be adopted on our side of tbe house so far as this State is concerned. Too little care has been ordinarily given to the selection of can. didates for electors who could and would make ar^ efficient canvass of tbeir dista. tySiO

A Tribune Vpecial says the Senate Finance Committee will consider tbe currency bill during the coming week and report it as soon:as possible. It is understood tbe members of the Committee are anxious to bring it forward at an efirly day, not only on account of the large vote it received in the House, bat also on account of the pressure brought to bear on them from outside sources. at. THE CURBENCT

The Times' special says the vote by which the ays and Means anti-contrac-tion bill passed the house yestorday, 137 yeas to 32 navs, is significant of the feeling in the House on the subject of currency. There is little, duubt tmt~that the next thing passed by the House will be a bill for the reissue of greenbacks to tbe original amount before contraction began. The first of these measures may get through the Senate with certain limitations, the last will certainly fail.

The representations made by Mr. Wheeler are untrue and he knows them to be so. An assessment has been levied Ion all the premium notes held by this

We held that they having insured on the mutual plan, they must take their chances with other mutual members, and if they would not pay their assessments and we could not collect it, (Mr. W. seemed to think we could not, by I law, in Indiana) the policies will be void and we be relieved of that much risk, which will be so much gained.

As to breaking faith with the policy holders, we do not see where that comes in, as we have always paid all losses in Indiana the same as in this State, and that is all we agreed to-do by our policies.

Undoubtedly Mr. W. feels aggrieved because we would sot take Stock rates and let him settle with the policy holders— bad we done so, there might be some truth in his aasertion that we {pad "bro-
