tells why

it was a success: Go through the streets of Now Harmony every morning after tbe Fair opens, and von would find every mechanic's shop, every store, and nearly evwry house closed, ehut »nd the husbands, wives, children, maids and bachelors, all gone to the Fair. They coma out to the ground? with their baskets filled for themselves and friends, and they food make tbe stranger their friend, at lenst during the Fair. If your people—1 mean the people of Evansville —would only enter into the spirit of their FairB as tho people of New Harmony and Posey County do in theirs, you would have a Fair equal to the State Fair.

All help, all work, all talk, all do for their Fair, and then at night the ball room and theatre were open for those who wished, and bouses of the citizens in town and country for thoso who wished to partake nf true hospitality.

One gentle* man, in particular, from Louisville, declared the "Stock Company of tho Metropolitan Theatre is superior to any ever engaged in Louisville, and 1 never saw it excelled In the West."

This was not intended as a "printed puff," but was the result of a general theatrical conversation at Press Headquarters, and we consider it as an article of agreeable news to the unfortunate, who have not visited the old resort this season and it will but reiterate the universal verdict of our play-goers who have. Shall the children of the Soldiers

and Sailors who gave their lives for the preservation of tbe Union be provided with homes, and receive a good education This is a question which will admit of but one answer—in the affirmative. It only remains, therefore, for us to point out the best mode in which it can be done. A careful examination has satisfied us, and will satisfy the public, that the projectors of the Riverside Institute, locate! in the village of Riverside, New Jersey, on the Delaware, have devised the most feasible method. Acting under the charter of tho Wa?hington Library Com. pany of Philadelphia, incorporated by the State of Pennsylvania, they are offering stock at tbe low rate of one dollar per share, and will give to each subscriber a beautiful steel engraving, worth at retail more than the price of the stock, and as an additional inducement will distribute among the stockholders presents valued at $300,000. Who can refuse to do a patriotic and benevolent action on these terms Lot every lover of his country record his name. Read advertisement. [dwlt.
