A FEMALE BLONDON.

Short Career of a Young Adventoress—Singular Whim of a Hint Girl—Hope-Walking at Saginaw thai Did Not Come Off.

From the Saginaw Eterprise, August 31. By all odds tho most remarkable con. tribution of Flint to the seekers of popular favor was made tho present week, in the way of & female Blondon. Not a lit— tlu interest was excited here by the advertisement of a rope walk from the top of tbe Bancroft House across Genesee street to the Hess Block. Everbody is still wondering why it did not come off, but this wondering is no wonder at all, compared with that which will be created by the true story of the young adventures, which we now propose to give.

First, as to the advent of the rope walker. Uti Monday last, there arrived here a girl 23 or 24 years old, of fair personal uppearaoce, good address, and evidently 'up to something." She stopped at the Evorett House, and soon circulatedjbills announcing that on Tuesday Mad. iillanora Shondon would walk a rope from the Bancroft Houso to tha Hess Block. &he was from the old world, slio said had been last in China was a professional rope-walker had an agent, who was at tho time lying sick in Buffalo had rope, etc., in i)atroit. Tuesday came, but thero was a high wind, and though quite a crowd congregated' there was a general understanding that the wind would pre* 'libit'

ent the exhibition, and the peop^ dispersed. Public curiosity did not aie out, however) and upon an announcement that the feat would come off on Wednesday, a very largo concourse of people was in attendance at the time.

At about seven o'clock in tho evening

dressed in the approved style, gauze skirts, tights, etc., with balance-pole and all the accessories. Tho wind was blowing as on the previous evening, and as tho girl showed herself on the edgo of the roof many people shouted to her not to at. tempt to walk, which it seomed certain would have a disastrous termination.— Soveral times she appeared just about to make tho attempt, and was greeted alters nately with cheers of encouragement and warning of the danger to bo incurred.— Finally it was announced that the walking would take place at 12 o'clock the next day, »nd it being 'nearly dark, the crowd retired. Next day, however, the ropo was taken down, and an exhibition given at Brown Hall, of which, however, no general notice wus given. Tho receipts at tho door of the hall were just $1 10, and rumor says that the lady foil from tbe rope on attempting to walk, putting a sudden and inglorious end to the entertainment

Madame Ellanora Shondon disappeared with this from' the public gaze, and few people know anything of tho extraordinary history of the affair. Madame E. S. is, in short, the daughter of a well-to« do citizen of Flint she has never been to China, or any other foreign country she has no agont sick in Buffalo or elsewhere—has had no agent at all, in facl, except a journeyman carpenter of this city, who acted for her while she was here. Her family is of unquestioned rospeotability, and, she is engaged to be married in a few days to a relative of ono of the highest State dignitaries. She has been noticeable rather for her staid behavior than for anything like dashing wildness, and as her father said, "couldn't walk a plank—let alone a tight rope.' "What induced hor to attempt the ropewalking business can only be conjectured. Her father left home on Monday lor Detroit, leaving money with her to make purchases for the approaching wedding, while she, it appears, took the noon train northward.

Tho girl's father arrived hero on the noon train Friday, and proceeded at once to make inquiries for his daughter, hearing that Ehe was in the city. He knew nothing of the rope-walkiug, but some acouaintance here informed him that Madame Ellanora Shondon was Miss Qei

his daughter. While the

futher was searching the town, some friend of the girl took her quietly to the dep.'t and sent her down Jto Flint on the accommodation train.

Her Rdventure had not been so proaiising'in its results as to make her loth to go back to her home and her expectant husband. The gauze skirts, flesh-colored tights, etc., in which she appeared for the rope-walking, were furnished, it appears, by aJFlint milliner, who had them for fancy ball dresses, and who was engaged in preparing the wedding outfit of Miss Celia. So ends a most remarkable freak of a young woman, undertaken from no necessity or apparent cause, and go utterly rash and hopeless as to make it a nin« day«' wonder that a girl heretofore so sensible, and always correct in her behavior, could even have a thought of it for a moment.

Having fished and swam in one or two of these Walled Lakes, and hunted along their beautiful margins and seen the walla in process of formation, I will state what I believe is the cause of this phenomena. It is simply the expansion of" the ice, which—meeting no obstacle like a perpendicular bank—is crowded up the shallow shores. On the under side of this ice, sand, gravel, boulders and other d*

is frozen, and are thus pushed or carried along. When this ice melts,, of course these substances are left on the bank or wall. These annual accretions have built up the walls, which are such a mystery to many, and which peripatetic numbsculls so often insist are

piled up along the shores or incorporated into those walls? Simply because tbey are scattered about in the soil—get 'fcash* ed out by the water—and become frozen into the ice, are pushed out of the way by its irresistible force. I have frequently seen huge slabs of ice along the shores of Iowa lakes, which had been crowded upon the shores a distance of fifteen to thirty feet from the places where they bad first congealed. I have seen dirt, sticks and stones, under the influence of the sun, dropping out of these masses upon the walls. Ihave thus seen the walls in the process of formation.

These "walls' exist to a greater or less extent about all our Iowa lakes. And I havefreqently seen grassy ridges around prairie sloughs, now overgrown with grass rushes, but which at some former period, had evidently been open lakelets. Decaying vegotation had filled them up with a peaty soil, and the ''walls" had bocome sodded ovor like abandoned earthworks. But their outlines were as distinct and as easily traceable as those of the lake9 where these causes are still in active operation.

If any reader doubts my theory, of questions my statements, let him make a visit to any of our Iowa Lakes in midwinter and he will drop the subject,
