BASK BALL.—The Continental Base 'Ball Club, of Marshall, wQl arrive in the city this morning at ten o'clock, and this .afternoon will play a match game with the Resolute Olub of this city. The igame will commence at half-past two o'clock, and be played on the grounds of 'the Fbeaix Club, at the east end of Ohio .street.

HOBIZONTAL* SLUMBER,—A medical fellow, writing lor a medical periodical^ io discussing tho question cf the most feasible attitude for the human body, to assume during sleep, says this: "It is often a question among people who are unacquainted with the anatomy and physiology of men, whether lying with the head elevated or level with the body, is the most wholesome. Most, consulting their own ease on this point, argue in favor of that which they prefer. Now, although many delight in bolstering up their heads at night, and sleep soundly without injury, yet we declare it to be a dangerous habit. The vessels in which the blood passes from the heart to the bead are always lessened in. their cavities jwhon the head/ is resting in bed higher than the body therefore, in all diseases attended with fever, the head should be pretty nearly on a level with the body, and people ought to accustom themsolvea 'to sleep thus, and avoid danger."

It is we'.l enough for a physiological 'essay to advise you to keep your head level with your body, but our advice, based on considerable practical experi« enoe, is that you keep a level head on your body. Sleeping or waking, the posture ia convenient in the family.

INFORMATION WANTED.—Philip Chap-^ pel, an old and well known citieen of Lost. Creek township, in .this connty, on or a^out tho first of June last, wont to Hutsonvilel, Illinois, for the purpose of engaging in tie 'fishing business. Whon he left home he stated th»t ho would be back about the first of August. Tho last heard from him was on the 12th of June, and as ho has disappoarod from Hutson. ville bis friends are fearful some mishap has occurred to him. Any information regard to, his whereabouts will be gratefully rtieiiad by 'his family. Will our exchanges please inako a noto of this?

RAILROAD THIEVES.—Within the past ymf "tho Chicago rtnd 'Great Eastern Rnilroad Company have allowed and paid claims for goods "short" to the amount of thirty thousand dollars, or moie,*and the thiove? have until rccetitly oludod the utmost vigilance of tbo ofllcers and detectives of the rpad. A little love affair, howevor, vory innocent and praiseworthy in itself, incidentally furn» ished a elue which carefully followed up laid bare tho camp of tho enomv and cut short their supplies. A Mr. Fen ton, who was section boss onL.thoj foad, had become Smitten with the charms of a lady residing at one of the stations on the road, and mailo hor acquaintance, which rip-ened'-into* Au"offer of 'marriage," which was accoptod, and a propitious time was awaited for itTconjtJtiiatiot). Kftor somo necessary delay, ho wrote to her from Richmondj saying t^at the looked for lime had arrived, and for her to come to Richmond and the}' would wed. She complied, and the cqqtioa boss, in gushing fullness of his joy and confidence, advised her of hi^ means and plans. He had, as bo informed her, a considerable sum of money in hand, and also a small stock of goods, which Wwas expecting to turn into money, which would enable him to become the owner of a' house and lot, and then "love ID a cpttage" was theirs,

In answer to her inquiries in regard to tbe, pter}handise, he very frankly told Iter that he bad taken it from the railroad cars on his train, and that there was a big chance ahead*fpr more, as he had tbe arrangements all made and in good working order. The bride elect did not relish the rtvelation as well as Fenton had antici. paled, ard her honest bosom swelled with indignation at the-idea of uniting her destinies with a raiload thief, and sho took time to think the matter over and returned to her home. After a little reflection, she concluded this was too big a load to carry, and upon a full consultation with a relative, made a clean breast of tbe facts. John Smith, freight conductor Stephen Fenton, Kokomo, section boss Charles W. Cook, David R. Taw,nnd George W. Bull, brakemen on Smith's train, were all arrested. Taw 'Squealed," and evidence enough has obtained to send them all up. A good deal of stolen property was recovered. For tha above facte we are indebted to the Richmond Humming Bird.
