AND THEIR HEADS CUT OFF.

From the Now Albany

We are told that these skulls were kicked about the Court House yard for several days, shocking all who saw them.— They wore finally taken possession of by some one—perhaps a physician. It is claimed by some tnat the heads were severed from the bodies by physicians, for anatomical uses others, however, deny this, and state that some of the mob en* gaged in the hanging were guilty of this last and most inhuman outrage. Whoever was guilty, the savage affair is disgraceful to Brownstown and Jackon coun*y-

body of lynchers. It will bo remembered that a few months ago two men, Tally and Brooks, arrested for the murder of a widow lady near Clear Spring, were taken from tho Brownstown jail by a mob, and hanged in the Court House yard. We are informed by a gen tleman who arrived in this city this morning from Brownstown, that tho bodies of these two victims of mob violence were lately disinterred, the heads chopped from the bodies, placed in quick lime, and the flesh afterwards removed, leaving the naked skulls grinning as ghastly as when their living owners were suffering the vengeance of an infuriated mob.

is

now

Is the hanging of a man by a mob any the less murder than the shooting of him down in his own house by a single indi* vidual Certainly not and so the law regards it. If, therefore, our courts wihk at the mobs, they will soon override law, and the Judge and jurors are as liable to fall under the vengeance of (heir displeasure as the man accused of crime, but not proved guilty.

Several murder cases are on the docket to be tried, or have already been tried, at the present session of the Jackson Circuit Court. There is no denying the fact or evading it that Jackson county has a fearfully dark reputation for crime. The character of the county should be vindicated by its courts in tho enforcement of the laws against criminals. Examples are required in order to stay the flood of crime that has long overrun that county. Evidence, we are told, is not wanting to convict the guilty, and the law should be enforced in its against those who are convict«allafterrigor a fair trial.

a regular set of boarders, who never miss a meal or pay a cent. One of these be recently kicked out. The indignant boarder brings suit for damages, holding that as the entertainment was advertised as free, his spending at the bar was optional.
