effect a re

union. of tke two schools. The full text of the proEosed reunion hga.been pub-. liahedL ©ais is .struck opoa reading It with the weakness of the barriers that haw~*r thirty yean separated the two bodies. Both have always iield to the tame tenents of belief, and accepted precisely the same polity. The confession of faith, a creed drawn up in the infancy of Presbyterian isai, has remained without alteration, the standard of orthodoxy with them both. There was never any difference between them in this respect. There may havG been, and doubtless was soMo difference in the relative prominence given to their more angular or controversial doctrines, but it has never been an. uncommon thing to find the most intensely Old School Theologians within the pale of the New School

Church, and men of rare liability and freedom from sectarianism in the Old Scbfaol branch. The matter Of doctrines never having separated them,' is now, therefore, bo barrier whatever to their re-union.

Slavery was the beginning and the whole of the difficulty. There were antislavery and pro-slavery elements in that as "in ill the churches, and because the former would not down at the bidding of the latter a breach was made between them th'tt j-miM noLbe healed soJoi^jm slavery existed. That buried in., the ruins of the past, and acknowledged by all decen^tpple to baye been the mother of all abominations and cruelties, there remains no good reason why-they should continue apart.

The only practical difficulty, judging from the terms of agreement, will be the blending of their several organizations, such as home and foreign missions, boards of publication and theological seminaries but there need be no serious difficulty in arranging those matters. A committee of learned doctors of the law, selected from both churches, has been appointed to investigate all questions of property anc^yeated rights as they may stand refated tc. the matter of re-union, and that committee will not, we apprehend, -find any special obstacles in the way of per feoging properly the details of re-union,'

If, as is generally supposed, jthree fourths of the churches of both branches aro" teady to meet upon the proposed terms, the only real impedi&enthas al ready been removed, bitter\$nd deep-seated animosity which existed only a short time ago Would pot,'1 was until ver^ recently teared^fllo jy of a re-Qnion until'th'e men

The re-union of these two branches the church, "which see ma to be near" at han3, augurs favorably for the complete re union of the Nortb and the South. The cause of estrangement was the same both cases, and that cause being entirely

tation increased the perplexity of ^the King. It was seen tbatnothing done in the absence of the mas^ fie was called|to Berlht»»^: caaine| eil was held inwafl^iately Sfter and the ^proposal of a agreed "Co. "The rapture which iimvifoftle is thus prevented.

Count* Bismark's Disagreement with the Xing of Possia.

If we may attach credit to letters from Berlin, the recent visit of M. Bismark to Pomerama w§a not so much on account of ill health and the Necessity of repoBe after so much fatigue, as of a (serious difference between him and the Sing on tl$ question, of JLuxembpurg. The information he received from the Prussian Embassadors in London, St.Petersburg and Vienna, left"no doubt on his mind that he should have communication from those Governments more fa'vorable to the views of the French Government than to his own. He communicated hig^appreherf-"" sion^ Jo_the King,.and askedlfor-initruc-tions as to the reply that should be given them, at the Bame time expressing his own opinion that, it should be conciliatory, so as td leave door Jopen to ulterior negotiatious. The King appears to have thought otherwise. Hfe conceived that the right of Prussia t? occupy the Duchy was evident and undeniable, and that the reply to the notes of the three governments, should be the pure and simple assertion of the right of Prussia.

C^unt Bismark did not hesitate tode^ clare that the immediate consequence of such a notification would be war war boguii against the wish, and with the expressed disapprobation of all Europe, and carried on by Prussia amid jthe difficulties of an incomplete organisation, with hostile passions and Ttfiioor which were not yet appeased for the Hanoverian and Danish populations had still to be kept dowo by a large armed -fore*. As—the King was not convinced by these arguments, M. Bismark said that he had no course left but to retire.

-r

His devotedness to his master was unbounded, but it was too much to expect that he should accept the responsibility of ft resolution which ne felt would end in the rum ot the policy tor the triumph 'of svhich he had labored. earnestly and so incessantly, and had sacrificed his repose and his health. Ho asked permission to retire to his estate for some days. If the' King designed to take into consideration SnrlT k°

Head Chopped Off—The Murderer Attempts to Kill tne Victim's Wife.

[from tli* fM»SftuUr Our community was thrown -fnto excitement -yesterday, -by—the—Bews of •be perpetration of a most atteeiymj gysMj in the town of Bridge Water, In" tffiSpotftity, near Dundas, yesterday morning.

The particulars, as we gathered them from the constable fmw Dundas, who came down with the prisoner on the train te our place yesterday, were as follows:

west of the railroad, where he had a clearing. The murdered man, whose name was Josiah Stamfoid, was a neighbor of Hoyt's. It would ^appear-from Hoyt's statement subsequent to his arrest, that there had been some trouble between him and-&tamford, relative to,|jie cattle o|,khe latter, which had trespassed on Hoyt's clearing. Yesterday morning the two met in the woods, and after a few words bad passed between them, Hoyt rushed upon Stamford and struck him a terrible blow with an axe, cutting open his bead and felling aimto the\ground, &Q$r which he dealt him another terrible cut, literally severing his head from his body....

The murderer, then, with the ti^er like ferocity of his nature fully atouBedr r^hed to ttse murdered mari'fe TiouSe fo^' tW purpose 4f killing his wife. She w|ts alone bnt being a woman of large frame, she made a desperate resistance and succeeded io keeping the flenct'at^baytantil her two sons, hearing.thfe noise of the struggle, rushed iu aud succeeded in ty ing the wretch. Their course has been followed quite generally by their friends.

displayed tne coolest, indifference respecting his horrible crime, freely acknowledging its perpetration, and only regretted that he had not succeeded in killing the "old Woman," as he tqched thOvictimAr wife. He declared that if he could be re* leased so as to go back and finish his bloody, work, he should be ?ead tirdie.— He Htso declared that-if aB^th'erSwtgmw^ cf his had not paid attention to his warning to kecjp his cattle off his (Hoyt's) pr emiseaj.., he would n-'- hi through."

The murderer is^ apparently betwaj thift^and-thirtyi.five'y6»r» o^^efWm dium hight, and well knit frame, and countenauce not very ill-looking,_bjjt yet suggestivey of -.'a dogged Vindic^jvenest which it would be dangerSus^ to rouse xir to action. Hoyt was "brought before Justice Perkins, but the' examinatipn was adjouroed. After he was cdmmitted to jail, he assumed an air of carelessness, and whistled and hummed snatches of songs, although it waB pretty evident that his demeanor was affected, and inspired b^ a spirit of bravado, rather than that of real idditferenoe to his position.

A Man-Wolf.

Bev. Dr. Butler, the welWcnown Mefh -odist .Missionary who esta|t ^|d ^|e sion of that Church in India in 18o6, recently returned to this country. Hi makes the following statement of a re markable case:

In 1859 a British soldier, while, bearing a dispateh from one magistrate to another

in the kingdom of Ouda, passed antiimfo quented ravine, where he sftw a pack wolves, and with them a human being, evidently one of their company...-Injme diately turning back, he reported ^bejdir cumstance to the magistrate Yor WJioin he .was traveling. The latter foKhwith mustered a. number of Coolies and wedlto the place. The wolves fled a short distance and sought refuge in a sort of cave or den. Beginning to dig, the party soon discovered the feet of the wild man, and drawing him forth, succeeded in binding and carrying him to the twga. Dr. Butle has seen him often since, Slid "lays life evidently a man, and at the time of his capture apparently „aboufe.twenty-four years of age. C? ""3

As tlw| before «be devoured her prey the'tfchiM instinctively sfearelied for fobd.'^^W ning to draw its nourishment, it awoke in the wolf the maternal iostinc1©«#ich led to the preservation of its life, and thus the boy lived and grew.
