MCRDERKK ARKKSTBD !—Yesterday morning about one o'clock Sheriff Kizer arrested at the Stewart House, a man ..niHnied William Carver, who some three we=ks since shot and killed John Stewart, in Sullivan county, on the Wabash river, -about three miles from Palestine. The version as we have it, is that while out hunting with another man, the latter carrying a double-barreled gun, the two approached Stewart's house, and grossly insulted Stewart's wife. Stewart came up and telling~Carver he~was~drunl_ asked him mildly to go away and not trouble /his family. With that Carver reached to hu companion, took tho rifle and taking deliberate aim lodged the contents of both barrels in Stewart's breast, cftusing in.ftant death. He was not aarssted, and •Luce that time baa been hiding about un. til a day or two since he came to this City. ?he fact coming to the knowledge of 'Sheriff Kizer he ^as arrested in bed as above mentioned. Carver is a desperate xoan, and had about his person three ro^ volvers. Those who kuow him state he •would not have hesitated to use them if the arrest had been attempted in daylight.
