Normal Institutes.—Encour

aged by the success of previous years, the State Touchers' Association, at the last session, appointed a State Central Committee to hold lour Normal Institutes during the coming summer. One will be held at Fori Wayne, under the tuperin tendenco of J. H. Smart one at Columbus, under the superintendence of H. S. McRae one at Terre Haute, by J. AT. Oicott: and one at Richmond, by Jesse H. Brown.

Fires.—The

Insurance

Ct'tnpsriies claim that the frequency of fires infticato with great accuracy the prosperity or depression of business operations. When trade is active and remunerative, tho thermometer is lew and steady. If dull and unproductive, it flashes upward in numerous conflagrations and losses. Things at present seem to verging toward the latter state. Fires are frequent in all parts of the country, and too many of them are suspected to originate with the insured for the sake of the money covered by their policies. The fact furnishes the index to the present condition of business affairs.' "5-
