THE latest foreign advices indicate that the mental condition of Empress CABLOTTA, wife of MAXMILLIAN, gives scarce any hope of her ultimata recovery.' The Mexican business proved too much for her brain. Her husband seems to be touched with insanity from the .msnner in which he hangs on to his losfccause.
SKNATOU "WILSON'S speech from tbe capitol steps in the city of Richmond on Tuesday night was received with grout enthusiasm. The crowd is represented to have been one of the largest political gatherings that has ever assembled in the State. Tho largest part of it consisted of colored persons. The Senator presented tlui

The newspupers are agitating the question for a new name for our Russian Territory. A great many names are proposed and advocated, and a good deal of Sarcasm and ingonuity la displayed in suggesting them as tho originators are favorable or unfavoable to fter" new puichase. It will be timo enough to christen our now turrilory when ce get it dully into possession and its cession ratified.— All tho funny things said of SEWARD and his purchase-make it none the less desirable, however. SEWARD ought to havo the privilege of christening Jthe new territory himself and the scribbles for the press should keep their names to them solves.
THE condition of affairs between Eng. land and Spain is far' from pleasant. Every thing sefims to show that England is drifting into a war with the latter country, and that too without much show ot justico on her side. Spain is a poor and weak power in comparison with the larger Kingdoms of Europe, and England is engagod in bullying her in the most" Jj5cfT and notorious manner. It looks very much like what is called picking a quarrel on tho part of Groat Britain. If a difficulty and war should ensue between theso countries, the enlightened nations of tho world will hardly give Englnnd any credit for the manner in which it was brought about. Tho matters in Controversy do not justify a resort to arms,, but they may be mero pretexts with unknown motives behind thom. 3 5 .—-»•*•* 11
Tub failuro of Mr. GLADSTONE as the loader of the Liberal party in the British Parliament is a significant fact~«&fo has written a lotter resigning his leadership on account of his failure on the reform question. This act shows clearly that ]VIr. D'ISRAKL-i, tho leader of the Tory party, wus too much for Mr. GLADSTONE, by Iris own confession. It .also shows that the future leadership of tho Liberal party in England must fall to JOHN BHioiiT,jwhcro it properly bolonged. We may soon expect this position to'- be assumed by Mr. BRIGHT, with better prospects ot victory and success than has befallen his predecessors. Mr. BKIOHT today stands as tho great leader of tho peo. plo in England, uud if he miikesno.grc:it blunders, will soon to the uiost popular man in that country. 4 ?M $gj
Among tho matters which it was proposed should bo inquired of by tho committee, which h:H in hand the investigation of subjects connected with the proposed impeachment of the President, was tho salo of Southern railroads and railroad property, to corporations existing in that part of tho Union. It was declared that the President had givun them away, or at all events dispi6ed of them without sufficient surety, and that tho property would bo entirely lost. "\Yo presume-we shall hear more of tho matter when tho ecirumiKee makes its report, which will not be, most probably, before December next.
Meanwhile, il may be observed, tout General Ruckkk, acting Q.iartermastor-Lien-erttl, has issued ,«ii order, stating that the terms upon svinth tho properly was ejnvcyed, stipulate for payment byA diversion of the nuu unU lo bo paid to tt'.e roads for mail transportation, the saoie sums to bo pa'd to lhe ^narteru»*slei 5 Department, in settlement of the gowraiment chunks This policy itiny prmlth-* tho desired ettect, ttnd l-rifig something into the coders of tho Treasury. It will evidently require a long timo, howevfcr, for the railroad companies to discharge their indebtedness, and surprise will be natural that no attempt had been mafift before this time t'- collect the money, j£lliclu_according to the order, seems 40

One would think, judging Irom street signs alone, that the people of Paris were very religious, and so they are in the matter of signs. Tjiore are nearly two hundred. streets which are named aftei* the saints. What an array of saintly names the street directory presents. Besides those commffiily known wu have Saint Elor, Saint -Aiidrew of tho Arts, Saint Good, and Saint Opportunity. In addition to theso:streets of the saints wo may fcrulk through the "ltoad Of tho Cross of the Little Camp," tho "Cross of the Wooden Wainscoting,'1 or the street of "David's Small Tower." Names most sacred and names profane aie indiscriminately used—names which it is almost a sacrileco to mention—the '"jptreet of the Holy Spirit,:r and the "Street of IJell."
Not only aro such names given to the streets, but looking from my window 1 can see a sign over a store door with this inscription "The Shop of tho Child of Jeius-'I Jllurlber-up the street the proprietor throws out in glaring letters the name of bjs establishment—"Tho Good Devil"—arid to impress It upon you he has a pictured representation of his guardian spirit an imp with a horned head carrying a carpet bag Another proprietor baa put up the sign of tho "Poor Devil." It would require much xpace to tivo tho curious momenclaturc adopted by tho Parisian shopkeepers the above will suffice lor examples aj
But in our ramhlings we may pass through the Street of Ancient Comedy, Street of the Beautiful Girls, Street of the Little Shelf, Street of the Good News of tho Miracles, Street of the Boquet of the Camps, the Basin of Copernicus, Street of St. Genevieve's Almond Trees, Street of tho Woman Without a Head.
But with all this, and much more of sentimentality,, wo come upon streets which beHrfctuih'honorod names as these: Ruo Beethoven, Hue Bellini, Rue Aubor Kue Rossini, Kue Beranger, Rue Franklin,'Que Petrarch, Ruo Laplaco. Generals, statesmen, poets, painters—groat names in science, literature and jurispru dence—not only of' France, but of all lands, are thus honored.
A WALK ALONG THE QUAY." Tho river Seine, which winds through the city, is bordered on both sides by mag niflcent stone quays, begun by tho First Napoleon and completed by' his successor upon the throne. There are nearly four, teen miles stone masonry along tho stream besides tho numerous bridges which span it. Tho river is subject to freshets, and tho banks tlioreof are considerably higher than tho ordinary water level.
The river has its ports—or, as we should say, places of deposit—for goods. Port Borcy iB tho great depot for wine, oil and firewood the Port Aux Tuiles for bricks and slates the Port d'Orsay for'wine and stone. But conspicous in the river are the immense floating baths and washhouses. In the latter the linch of Paris is washed, It is quitem spectacle to see several hundred women at tho wash-tubs ruWbing and scrubbing, with great Settles steaming, with bundles of dirty clothes going in and baskets of clean ones coming out, borne on tho hands of wash-wo-meu. The feo for a lady's washing with eold water is eight cents for tbe boiling of a kettle of cloths, two cents.
The bath houses are immense floating Structures, some of which are fitted up in olegnnt'tasto. The largest and beit is at tho Quay d'Orsay, which has several largo swimming saloons, three hundred and fifty dressing rooms, a divan and cofrqg room, where the bathers on refresh themselves after a bath. The rates are at a moderate price for use of towels, brushes and soap. Near tho Louvro is moored the ''Good Saniaritano" bath house, where excellent warm baths may be 1 hud for ten cents. There are also sulphur and m:dicutod. In all there aro over two hundred bathing placrs in flic city, and furnishing an annual average of $2,500,OUU l.alhs.
Most ol the wealthy pooplo havo baths brought to them. You see a man pushing hand cart through the street, with a sheet-iron tank upon it, and carrying a bothing tub. He baits at a house, sends in his tub, draws several buckets of hot water troin his tank, receives his fee, and go$s 011 tq find another cjistomcfrv—JT. Y. Gazette.'
IT is r.n interesting fact in natural history, which, we imagine, is not known to everybody, that the celebrated "big trees" of Caiii'uruia are now being successfully grown in this State, and are increasing in magnitude, according to the proper order of things. Itls now thirteen or fourteen years since a .gentleman, a resident near Rochester, made plantations of these ugiOiUc trees from Med procured in Cali"rtfRfcf and the progress they have already made uivtss proof that in two or three thousand yarsthoy will att in their full-JatrowUi. an.I cover «n empiru with their .-hadow When we consider that they reach a height of 300 or 30o feet, and circ.imfereiico of i'O or 100, it is evident that Ui:s'.country will not txr as destitute of lumber in tho fur distant futuh as ..omi1 peOjde have feared. The experiment of introducing these trees into this part of the world has excited more interest in Europe ibMi among ourselves, and the proprietor is constantly receiving inquiries from .England as to the procuring of seed 'Tor n.-o there. The "Big Tree" on General W adsWorlh's folate, on Genesee Flats, miller which tho Indians, in early days, held their councils, used to have a good deal of celebrity, but that was only thirty feet in circumference, and is completely dwartod b}\ these gigantic wontigrs oi the W e=t.—Aeu 1'orA-

Hudson was easily overpowered and killed by driving into his ear a portion of the jron spindle belonging to a spinning wheel. After the murder was aecompished the body was taken to the loft of the cabin, juid left hanging by tho neck, as it was found Beveral days thereafter,
The woman to whom this fearful secret was imparted divulged the facts before the GramtfJirry at the present term of the Circuit Court, who at once found a bill against llcNabb, his wife and sister-in-law and yesterday the parties wore arrested, brought to this town and placed in jail.
The women aro both decidedly good looking, but their countenances seem to indicate that they have no hope.
