NEW MUSIC.—We have just been favored through the popular Music Store of our friend J. G. Lindeman, with the copy of a beautiful new song, entitled:— "Crushed is my Heart with Sorrow words by Thomas li. Long, music by Prof. J. C. Meininger. We have had the pleasure of announcing many of the songs of these gentlemen, this being the sixteenth they have published together but as a composition combining at once mu:ic as an art, and its deepest feeling in poetry and melody, this is undoubtedly the chej d'oevre of them all. All its beauties of rythiu and song are constantly suslamed by a fullness aud grandeur of harmony, but seldom found in the com
anywhere outside of the best and most popular operas. It is dedicated to an accomplished young lady of this city.

BED SCOTCH GRANIT*.—A revolution 1B taking place in regard to tomb 'stones and monuments. In many of the large cemeteries the cold and ghostly white marble is giving place, to a considerable extent, ta the warmer and more cheei-ful colore. The red Scotch granite is ono of the latter. Oc Saturday we had tbe pleasure of making the acquaintance of Mr. Dodds, who, with his brother, is engaged at
X^nia, Ohio, in importing Scotch granite. He showed us a specimen of exceeding beauty and polish. In regard to it we transfer to our columus the following from the Indianapolis Journal:
To speak of it as red granite merely, conveys but a feeble idea of its beauty. It is composed chiefly of three constituents —feldspar, hornblende and quartz—the feldspar being of a deep flesh color, the hornblende arid quartz of dark and light tints beautifully contrasted. In some respects it resembles the fine iennessee marble, which no one who has seen the Tennessee State House or the Capitol at Washington will ever forget but it has greater durability and hardness, and is susceptible of a higher polish. Indeed, it is so hard that the workman who applies the chisel to it strikes fire at every blow and the beautifully poiished surface, reflecting like a mirror, .cannot be scratched with the best tempered knife. This granite may be exposed to the rain and storm of centuries, losing little of its brilliancy or beauty and it tbe object of "sculptured monuments" is to preserve as long as may be the memory of the loved, cherished and honored dead, no better material than this Scottish granite can be used.
This stone has a more striking appearance than the granite of New England, and we judge is even superior to it, it that be possible, in durability as a building stone. Blocks of Scotch granite in structures more than two centuries old have lost none of their splendid polish and firmness. The stone is employed to a considerable extent for the columns of large edifices of which the material is marble, the contrast thus presented being most attractive and cheerful.
We understand Mr. Bates and one or two other citizens have contracts for monuments of the Scottish granite, to be placed in their lots in Crown Hill Come' tery. The red shafts of these monuments in various localities will present a pleasing contrast to those of white marble which already ornament the ground.
A specimon of this Granite can be soon at this office, arid further particulars can be had by addressing Mr. James Wilson, Box 734, P. O., who is the authorized agent for this county. We hope soon to see seveial columns of this beautiftll material adorning our cemetery.:
