I In the Court proceeding published in tiie (Memphis Post recently, occurs' the following A petition was received from oneS, W. Elliot, praying that his name be changed setting forth that he was a resident of Oneida County, New York, when .the war began, and named Silas E. Smith, but wishing to avoid the dratt, he left tho State, came to Memphis, and adopted the name of S. W. Elliott,,, ,and that be ahd his wife had gone under the name ever since. He now prayed1 that his name be changed back to Silas E.Smith.
Judge Leonard remarked that this was probobly tbe most remarkable dodii mCnt that bad ever, been submitted to the Court.
Justice Creighton moved that his name be changed, and that Justice Walker Walker be allowed to name him [Laughter.] ,i
Justice Miller moved to take away his name ancP l&tve him without any.— [Laughter.]
Justice Walker said that the Court had nothiug to do with it whatever he could change his name forty times if he wanted to, but the County Court had nothing to do'with it. [Dropped under^he table.]
