It is mentioned as a remarkable
fact that the present severe weather was ushared in on Saturday by a storm, and that every Saturday since that tiiu© has been made memorable by the commencement of fall of sleet or snow.
We had the pleasure of a call yes

The daily Union Pjayer Meeting
has entered upon the third week of its existence. Last week it was well attended in spite of the unfavorab'o vreather and rotation from church to church. This week it is to be held at the new Court House, which is an exceedingly pleasant and comfortable room. '-,u

T®~ A meeting was held last Saturday at Lockport, to consider of the practicability of building a gravpl road from Terre Haute, by that place, to the county line, in tho direction of Worthington. Notwithstanding the storrn there was a good attendance, and the steps to form an association under the general law, ware inaugurated. A Committee to obtain subscriptions of stock was appointed, to report at a public meeting, to be held in the Old Court House on next Saturday, at one o'clock. The business of Terre Haute should take a deep interest in this improvement. They should all attend this maeting.
All' Burnett has been engaged by
the Young Men's Library Association to give two of his inimitable performances,at Dowling Hall, on Friday and Saturday evenings of this week. It is hardly neces^ sary to speak of the wonderful powers of

He is said to be tho only man living tbnt can, at the same tinu\ luugh on tho one side of his face and cry upon the other. TrHE A""MATEURS.—We were present at the iinal rehearsal of the Amateurs last evening, and through the kindness of the management permitted a perusal of the Comedy of "Fashion." The scene is laid in New York City, and i3 a faithful and witty commentary .upon the forced and shoddy aristocracy of the modern Babylon. Mrs. Tiffany, the self-complaisant, ignorant and conceited follower of the latest French customs and fashions ber husband, laboring in his dark and dingy counting-h6use to support the exhausting extravagance of his wife and fashionable' daughter the Count, the bewhiskered,. scented, lisping man of "fashion, swelling with foreigu tities uud the immensity of his own importance Adam Truman, the Cattaragua farmer, plain, homespun, simple and honest, unmaskirig the hollow mockery of the false life around him the beautifuWand truthful Gertrude, ,dependent, an orphan, ^earning ber sustenance by the employment of her talent, forgiving and forgetting the insult3 of her employe ers, cheerful and happy Snobson, the /confidential clerk," who taking advantage of his employer's misfortunes, attempts a forced" marriage witb Mr. Tiffany's daughter, but in a momont of drunken bravado overreaches himself Fogg, "totally indifferent Twinkle, the Poet Millinetttt, the mirror of French Fashi ions Zeke, the "gentlemanly colored individual in livery," with the ladies and gentlemen of the ball-room, form a pl6t at orico Interesting and pleasing.
We did not remain to the rehearsal of the farce of "The Milliners," but are told Lu Hager's "Yanderpants" and O'Reiley's "Angelica Todd" are incomparable. Go early to-night, as there are no reserved seats.

THE DAILYMORINGPBAYER MEETINGS— REFLECTIONS FOR BUSINESS MEN—FOR YOUNG MEN—FOR ALL CLASSES OF
PERSONS OF BOTH SEXES OF TERSE HAUTE. Seeing the indifference to religion and the great wickedness, which prevailed in this city in the month of December, the undersigned, under a conviction which he could not suppress, published in the daily papers, a series of articles against the Sttbbafh desecration
which prevailed in our
midst. There are but few of our citizens who did not read them, some to commend them—some to condemn
Under a similar conviction of duty the same writer feeis constrained now to say something in regard to the duties of christian people and other citizens of Terre Haute, touching the prayer^meetings still in progre?s in this city and now held in the new Court House, every day from 9 till 10 o'clock. This prayer meeting has not been in progress since the 7th of January. During the first week sovural hun* dred persons met daily in Dowling Hall to unite their petitions to God, that he would pour out his Spirit upon us. On the Sabbath which immediately followed this week of prayer at a meeting of the friends of the Bible cause in one of our Churches, Col. Thompson remarked that he had never seen in Terre Haute such a demonstration as he then saw in behalf cf I HELI' WANTED.—Ten girls to cook, our Bible. Since then too, an interest tins wash and iron, to go to Brazil, Indiana, been awakened in many a heart, with the Enquire at S. R. Freeman's Jewelry Store
inquiry, "WhaVshall 1'do to be saved?' Asd it has been remarked during these meetings that there never has been in the city of Terre Haute a general, awakening
and a
general outpouring

There is not a soul in Terre Haute, be it of an., aged citizen ur a youn^ one—be it male or female—be ft the goal .if an infidel who tremble*when Christian people pray—be it of the man guilty of profanation of the Sabbath or the name of God—be it the drunkard, the gambler, the adulterer or what, that the Spirit of God cannot or inay pot consent and consecrate ito Itdtluelf.
But the day of miracles is past. God now acts through means and one of these is prayer.
In one form and another God has spo» kpn during the last.. w?o wee|c9 ,,to how many thousand souls in Terre Haute To some, this agonizing of God's faithful people, for the salvation of the impenitent among us, has come with a voice and said, to ihe houpe of have gone and found the blessing. To some it has come at their homes, or at their stores, or shops, or offices, and has raised the inquiry with, them of duty and" tftadb them uncoiafoitable,. in the neglect of their duties and in their sins.
Knowing the terrible danger of men out of Christ—Knowing that God hath appointed a day in which ho Judges the world in righteousness by that man Christ Jesus whom he hath ordained—Knowing the willingness and. ability
We are in
