EXPECTS NO TROUBLE
NEW YORK, June 24.—-Edward De Valera, "president of the Irish republic," declared today that he expected no trouble with the American government over his appearance here. **\Vhen I came here," he said, "I had all the intention of observing the laws of a government of the people, by the people and for the people," and added that "an Irishman will only refuse to obey the laws imposed upon him in his country by a foreign power."
These statempnts were made when newspaper dispatches quoting Washington officials "that he would hav« to observe the laws of the country in making his appeal for the Irish republic," were called to his attention. "I am certain," he said, "that the American people will not stand for any interference by British tools."
PREDICT ERA OF CONTENTMENT
Big Business Men Look for Greatest Prosperity In History. Elbert H. Gary, Frank A. Vanderlip, Charles M. Schwab, J. Leonard Replogle, John D. Ryan, John G. Shedd and Secretary Redfield say this country is on the threshold of great prosperity. The opinion of such men must be heeded.
Judge Gary predicts a 5-year era, the most progressive, prosperous and successful in our history, "astonishing even the most optimistic of today. We are in an era' of prosperity biUierto undreamed of," he said.
Charles M. Schwab says: "I am strongly optimistic that the future surely has in store success for American business. We are bound to have prosperity."
John C. Shedd, president of the Marshall Kield & company, says: Phemomenal business in every line is bound to develop throughout the United States. I believe that the next half century will be a period of the greatest prosperity and contentment this nation has ever known."—Springfield (..Mass. Republican.

Indianapolis Police Take Steps Prevent Jail Delivery. IXPIANAPOUS, June 24—Special details of police and detectives were trying today to trace the source of rumors reaching Sheriff Robert Miller that soldiers stationed at Fort Benjamin Harrison were planning to invade the Marion county jail in a neffort to effect the release of George K. Kessler.
Kessler Is a discharged soldier, held on a grand jury indictment alleging first degree murder of Miss Maye Wilis ins, whose body was found in a cistern here May 31. Special guards were stationed about ihe jail last night. No credence is placed in the reports, but ollicials decided to play "safety first."
TIME IS EXTENDED.
Coke Workers' Temporary Agreement Is Continued In Force. The committee representing union employes of the Indiana Coke and Gas company granted an extension of the temporary agreement reached two weeks ago, in order to give officials of the plant more time to consider working contract presented when the workers went wn strike for more pay and shorter working hours.
Following the walkout" the men returned to work under a temporary agreement which expired this morning. It is expected that the trouble will be settled within the next few days.
