Those Who Never Threw Bombs,

But Who Coax Others 'Are To be Jailed.

WASHINGTON, June 14.—Official

I announcement came today that there Is to be a country-wide round-up of all academic revolutionists, generally •4 known as "parlor socialists." ft This announcement also confirms the purpose of the government to determine Just what proportion of the brRins behind the recent revolutionary demonstrations in several places in the country can be traced directly to tho groups of persons plentifully supplied 1 with money who, with plenty of leisure, are known to tiave been stimulating and even inspiring uprisings on behalf of the so-called proletariat.

One man styled a "parlor socialist,*' $ is now being particularly watched by «j government agents. According to information reaching government agents If s~ yesterday, this man, a millionaire by 9R inheritance, has been declaring that the Monday bomb plots were inspired and planned by the "capitalists" as a means of discrediting the cause of the proletariat. In making such- uttert- ances he is simply repeating the charges of some of the most dangerous agitators in the country.

The attitude of the gorertimprtt agents is that the man, if not mentally warped, needs to be closely watched.

Commenting upon the Announced purpose to investigate the "parlor Boltl aheviki," the Washington Star says: "The 'parlor Bolsheviki" form the 1 bulk of tho membership of societies 3 devoted to the 'study' of problems. I

They deliver speeches and jtfrite artiit cles for the 'proletariat press,' they jj| argue about the sufferings of the 'down-trodden' and the sins of caj•i italism. "Consciously or not, these amateur 5 s revolutionists are sowers of the seed $*" of anarchism. They inflame the minds 4 of the discontented. They furnish a nucleus for seditious work of the active agents of revolt and destruction.

They are recruiting agents for the army of terrorism. "These 'parlor Bolsheviki' do not make bombs themselves. Far, far from such horrid work. They do not even suggest bombs. They deplore bombi, especially when one has been exploded. They abhor violence. They denounce incendiarism—in public. "Now these advocates of exotic political schemes are to be winnowed by government agents, to ascertain whether any of them are guilty of actually promoting the outrages of Monday *\g_night. They are to be sounded upon their beliefs and connections. They will doubtless all profess the greatest i possible love of country and the ut-

Lmost horrof of incendiaries who sought Sthe lives of public men and capitalists jgtarly this week. "Some will perhaps be defiant and will argue that they have a constitutional guarantee*of liberty of speech. 2S?But none of them will justify bomb making. Oh, no! Between them and the criminals who slink about in the dark with infernal machines there cannot possibly be the slightest connec-

Uon! "This drag-net procedure will be helpful. It will bring many amateur propagandists of revolution to their 5* senses. It may drive some of them iifto the ranks of the actively seditious, /^^vhere they belong. And it should put

an end to a tleast the open meetings of the parlor plotters, who, if they have not directly promoted these S,1 crimes, are it least contributory to them."

ii Etsit Manl® Had a Triumj^ial PrOcession of Her Own. L/ TARRY TOWN, N. Y., June 14.—The fire department, the police department, •*C the mayor, the town council and the fti' rank and file of the citiaenry .went {/, down to the railroad station tne other afternoon and welcomed back with cheers and brass bands the town's biggest hero of the war—Elsie Janis.

Miss Janis. who has been attached to the A. E. F. under orders of GenI eral Pershing himself, got to New York earlier in the day on the Holland-

American line steamship Rotterdam. jz One of the officers stationed at Hotoken, knowing that Miss Janis's home

Consequently, jji~when the train arrived and Miss^lanis |w": stepped off—bang! went the welcome. ,(«Miss Janis, plainly not expecting such reception, stood abashed for a mog* ment, then she reached out and made the motion of shaking hands with

jeverybody at once, while the mayor made a speech. Then the driver of hook and ladder 1 No. 1—it is notorized, one of the latest

models—and take it from the members of hook and ladder company No. 1, the best in the country, let alone Westi Chester county—sprang from his place and tendered Miss Janis an invitation to come up to the front seat of the Are %f apparatus and tour the town. u' Tokened by the side of the proud X+r

Miss Janis was taken up and down f"', first one street and then another. After making a complete circuit of f. the city, Miss Janis, still on the fire truck, was driven all the way out to V 'her home, where she disappeared "to take a much needed rest, thank you" she put it.

STEALS COPPER'S SHOES,

Ye», of Course, This Was In Philadelphia. PHILADELPHIA, June 14.—To steal a policeman's shoes and then swipe another "cop's" loaded revolver is "some stunt," but that is what Samuel Smith put over in Ldianerch, a suburb of* this city.

Smith broke into the h6me of Samuel Love, a policeman, at Lilanerch while Love and his family were soundly sleeping and pocketed Love's revolver and quietly evacuated the premises.

A short time later Roy Jenkins, another patrolman of the village, espied a man acting in a very suspicious manner. The man was carrying & pair of perfectly good shofe in his hand and keeping in the shadows. Jenkins arrested him. The shoes belonged to the patrolman.
