CLOSING THE TOWN.

Tf the report of Dr. Vancleave, to the effect that there are but eighteen cases of Spanish Influenza here, and that be knows of but thirty-two cases which might be considered ievere colds, the order quarantining the schools, churchcp and the theatres here should be immediately revoked.

When the order was first Issued Monday, the public assumed that the board of health, both here and at Indianapolis, had information which the public did not have, and the disposition of tho public was to do everything possible to prevent the spread of an epidemic.

The school officials and the theatre mm readily complied, and for three days the theatres, moving picture houses and places of amusement have been closed tight, and there has not been a single violation of the order.

One or two deathn within the past week have been attirbuted to Influenza, but there seem to be no conditions which justify quarantining: the schools, churches and theatres.

Terre Haute seems to have been singled out by the state officials for the imposition of this order. It Is said that Fort Wayne. Evansvill© and other cities of considerable size have not

If you find yourself tired, weak or losing flesh this warning should be heeded promptly. You arc in real and very groat danger because the germ of this epidemic is specially contagious and in your weakened condition snould you come in contact with it you would faJI an easy victim.

The commonsenie preventative is to begin taking Father John's Medicine at once because the pure food elements of which this old-fashioned, wholesome body-builder is made are easily taken up by the system and turned into vital, resisting energy giving you fighting strength to wcrd off the influenza germ. The gentle laxative effect of Fathor John's Medicine drives out impurities.

been molested. If there are but eighteen cases of influenza here, and if, as Dr. Vancleave says, this number may include some cases which are but ''heavy colds," it is time for the quarantine order to be lifted, for unless public precaution justifies this situation, a lot of people are suffering undue hardships.

WRONG NUMBER.

Prince Max doubtless will read President Wilson's message today and conclude that he got the wrong number. The reply of the president is just enough to disclose the whole rascally scheme behind Max's peace dicker, and, too, the president's answer will serve to reveal to the world the military trick hidden therein.

There will be an honorable peace In time. But it will not be a peace with William Hohenzoliern, for in William there Is no honor. There is no truth in him, no shred of conscience. It may be & peace not wholly dishonorable to the people of Germany if they honer themselves by spewing out the Hohenzollern filth. While they wallow In the Hohenaollern style they must remain smeared with Hohenzollern dishonor, and their demand for honorable consideration is as preposterous as the demand from William himself.

These fundamental facts have not been grasped by Prince Maximilian or, if they have been grasped, they have not been appraised with sufficient accuracy. Not now or at any future time can Maximilian or any other German bring the allies to the consideration of a peace treaty with Hohenzollernism. Not now or at any other time can any German bring the world's democracies to a discussion of a negotiated peace. Neither a Hohenzollern nor a Hohenzollem's servant can work Germany's salvation. If the German people cannot come with clean hands after the crimes they have been led to commit they must at least come with humble hearts, and the first evidence of their repentance must be the casting down of the Ilohenzollerns and all their bloody clique.

From now on, as long as he lasts, the chancellor may save himself the tiring mental effort of preparing peace speeches and messages on behalf of his kaiser. If he desires to palaver about his democratizing of.Hohenzollern Germany he may gam a hearing from German credulity. Vhe race of muttons that has followed William all these long leagues down the stony road of autocracy may be led for a time by this muddled advocate of "democracy by negotiation." But of "peace by negotiation* we should hear no more. Even a German should learn after he has been kicked so many times.

THE JUDGMENT TO COME.

One of the Tribune's war correspondents says that the thing that hastened the kaiser-inspired plea of Prince Max for some getting off place for Germany has been the temper of the German people in the cities along the Rhine, who have felt tho first aerial bombardments by the allies, and who have little appetite for this kind of warfare which Germany herself has been using for three years.

Since the beginning of the war all of these towns have become manufacturing points for munitions, and the whole region has been turned into a vast warehouse for war supplies. On account of its proximity to France it is the avenue to the western front, the chief base for the furnishing of guns, poisonous gases and ammunition, its railways and canals have been utilized to the fullest extent in rushing supplies to the battlefields. The bridges across the Rhine, especially the bridges at Cologne and Coblenz, have formed indispensable links in the connection between central Sermanjr and the front

So long as the German airmen were dropping bombs upon England east coast sea resorts, destroying Red Cross hospitals, wrecking schools and homes in London suburbs, and taking a heavy toll in the lives of women and children, Germany in her elation over the devastation wrought found the airplane and Zeppelin justifiable methods of warfare. But with her own soil attacked, Germany cries out in horror. The kaiser hypocritically declares in his telegram to Frankfort that "the enemy's attack was contrary to international law." These aerial raids are not warfare upon non-combatants, upon women and children, but ham a definite military aim and serve a military necessity. Germany does not underestimate them she knows the meaning of the destruction of the Rhine bridges, the disabling of her great war munition plants and the insecurity of this strategically important base of Immediate supplies. She has reason for her severe attack of nerves and for her outcry against a method of warfare which she herself inaugurate^.

The most effective, "the most convincing arid the most "patriotic answer that Indiana can make to the kaiser's latest peace maneuver, is to be found in sn immediate oversubscription of bonds of the Fourth liberty: Loan Issue.

A reaction is confidently awaitel from the lethargy that preceded the printed announcements of the latest development in the German peace drive. The State liberty Loan committee believes Indiana will join in the concerted response of'the entire union and return a prompt subscription of more than asked by the treasury department.

This is no time to talk peace rather the presumption of the enemy warrants a spirited rebuke in the form of still greater pledges to the national war fund, through subscriptions to Liberty Loan bonds.

Let us take hew heart and make the Indiana answer to the kaiser sting. Let us buy Liberty Bonds till it hurts —him! Never mind how much we think we are hurt by the sacrifices. In reality we are all alive,' and eating moro than enough to keep us alive, and wearing clothes much better than those of the Belgians, and living in houses untouched by.the vandal, who is trying to fool us now. We should realize now that each one of us must come to the proposition of using our credit to the utmost—just like Uncle Sam himself is doing—if we fulfill our obligations to the call of this nation. Because we haven't money in bank, we cannot afford to feel that the responsibility has been taken from us.: Let all of us borrow money to buy these bonda. Double Efficiency

GARLAND

The slotted fire bowl, Double Hot Blast ring, in the Smokeless Garland is a feature worthy of your attention when you axe contemplating buying a new stove. This wonderful addition consumes the carbon in the smoke and turns the volatile gases into the heat units, which are immediately radiated into the room. By taking the hot air in at both the back and the front of the stove at the same time, assures complete combustion. This is a distinctive Garland feature. When you examine the slotted fire pot, patented grate, seamless ash pit, and gas-tight mounting, you have the strongest assurance of a lifetime of practical economy and service—with all fuels.

The Garland was the first stove produced that would hold the fire for forty-eight hours.

Miners' Wages.

Editor of the Tribune:—• I was surprised at the attitude of the Terre Haute Star, in an editorial "Too Much Money," taking a stand against the wage earner, comprising SO per cent of the Star's support. Many of the statements contained in the editorial are incorrect. The editor says that because the laboring man cannot buy booze he don't know what to do with his surplus money and therefore remains idle a large portion of his time. I cannot figure where the laboring man would have any surplus if all commodities had advanced 300 per cent like the Terre Haute Star. I wonder if the editor is angry because his employes want to slpare part of his profits.

In making your selection of a heating stove for your home, consider, if you please, the Service side of the purchase. In other words, place your dollars alongside your purchase. When you invest in the genuine Smokeless Garland you receive dividends on your dollars "invested" in the form of durability, economy and efficiency. The value of a stove is measured by the amount of heat it steals from the chimney. Garland Heaters have a national reputation for successful radiation of heat with the cheapest and least amount of coal.
