TTAfrnTKriYW, Sept. SS—Naval tBiits or naval sections of the student army training corps are to be established at eighty-five universities and colleges in thirty-seven states and the District of Columbia. In announcing them last night, the navy department said students subject to draft may enroll in the naval units or sections by applying before Oct. 1 to naval representatives at the institutions.
Students admitted will be allowed active duty pay and will be enrolled in the naval force as apprentice seamen. The students must make their own arrangement with the institutions with regard to board, lodging and tuition, as under the agreement between the war and navy departments the latter Will not enter into any contracts with the schools as the war department has done in the case of institutions having sections of the student army training oorps.
Members of the naval onits and sections will, after a certain period, he selected according to their performance and students assigned to naval 4|nty In a training camp.
The schools in the central states at which naval units and sections wll^ be •firolled follow:
Illinois—A o Institute, Northwestern, Illinois, Chicago University. Indiana—Indiana, State, Purdue and Notre Dame.
Kentucky—State University. Michigan—Michigan A giiettltnral college, Michigan an)j Detroit Universities.

TJBKRTX BOND SINGERS.
Oh or us of Herz Employes Attract Citizens With Morning Sing.
It certainly is inspiring toward patriotism to start the day with a community sing with all members of the store Joining in from the basement to the top floor. Each morning this is tbe program at the Hers store, to arrive at fight o'clock and sing until 8: 5 o'clock, songs of an inspiring nature and while the singing is done inside, crowd? of interesting people gather from the front doors to away in the street to hear the music. Mothers arise early and accompany fathers, boys whose patriotic fervor tinny lag as they face the call of country vs. the call of home, men whose only sons are now at the front, they arc all there, and they go away the better for hearing such songs as "Over There" to which the employees Bing clevor parody.
This morning to start off the weeks' sale of Liberty bonds, special music wa« provided and the mighty chorus welled, on the breese with "Buy a Bond** and song# of similar nature such as big stores in the east have supplied for their assistants. •Home crowd it was that' listened litis morning, perhaps inspired by the Conscience Sunday, celebrated yester
day.

rfcTTY HEW CLOTHING.
If You Need It, Says Army CJiief To Enlisted Men, (From Cincinnati Times-Star, "Registrants ought not to deny themselves new wearing apparel if they need it,"' jraid Col. Zimmerman, chairman of Local Draft Board No. 3. "Many of tliem'are wearing old shoes, shabby clothes and last year's hats because they are under the impression that they are going to be called to military service in a wee* or so. Most of them are under & wrong impression. Youths ot lg and registrants over 36 years old are not likely to be O&lled this year. "A comparatively MaaJl percentage of registrants between 19 and 36 years arr likely to be railed. Men who have families or parents dependent upon them and men employed in essential industries will be placed in deferred classifications. So there is no reason why they should not buy wearing apparel of all kinds, if they need Jt."
Loyal Scouts Active
During the Liberty bond sale Sunday at the Warren school, two pass-ers-by were hailed by Boy Scouts and asked to buy a bond. "To hell with the Aiiborty bonds," is the response alleged to have been made by tlie men. who were under the influence of liquor.
Two Boy Scouts, Earl Glenn and Or*4 lie Noller, resented the language and decided to trail the men until they could be reported to the polices The bo: s followed the pair untif they boarded a street car near the school. Not to be thus baffled the young sleuths swung onto the rear end of the car and rode until the men alighted. One of the boys then followed the men while another sought an officer.
The offenders were locked up and later were fined for disordfc.iy con^pct.
