NEWS OF TEE STOCK XABKET
NEW YORK, Sept. 14 —A firmer tendency in the stock market at the openins? today apparently confirmed opinion expressed in many quarters that the recent liquidation by holders of speculative stocks had about run its course. Standard issues. including United States, Canadian Pacific, Southern Pacific and Reading, were higher by substantial fractions. Numerous specialties made large fractional gains. Wilson Packing company suffered In response to the president's proclamation making operations of packers in live stock markets subject to federal control.
Substantial advances in both standard and speculative issues in today's stock market reflected realization of forecasts that a better monetary situation would terminate the speculative selling which has featured the week's trading. Seasoned dividend paying stocks of investment grade scored average advances of a point, while the more speculative issues jumped 2 to 4 points. Extensive buying of Liberty bonds at marked improvement contributed to the more confident feeling expressed. The closing was strong. Sales approximated 200,000 shares.
