Miss Geneva Doyle. Dear Sis and All:—Received your loving letter and was sure glad to hear from you, as it was the first letter I have received over here. I hope you are all getting along just fine. As formyself, I arri fine and dandy and feeling like a lark. The boys in our squad aLl say I am getting bigger every day, so you will be surprised to see me when I come back.

Things are snre hamming over here and we have the Huns on the ran. It looks like good-bye for Kaiser BilL We were four miles behind the front lines the other day and. believe me, the big guns were sure talking. The Germans took a liking to the woods we were in and they shelled it, but I'm still O. K. We were all sleeping the other night when a Boehe came over in a plane and started to play a tune with bombs. He must have run out of bombs, but things were getting hot for him when he went away. He came hack in about an hour with some more music, but this time he had a different aiiirwer. It was a musical machine gun, and he soon got tired of our music. He came pretty close to me and we were ail% tired of his stuff when he lit out.

The woods we are holding were held by the Germans until recently, and when they were driven out they ran so fast that they left the woods full o£ piles of ammunition. I came across so many dead Germans that I didn't take time to bury them. I have seen lots of prisoners, and they sure look on the bum.

I have met one Terre Haute fellow since I have been here, and 1 sure would like to run into Joe Lynain.

There is a nice little church near here and 1 haye been the last two Sunday*. It J*n*owded with-eo*diere, and

Dear Mother:—I sure have been doing some traveling the last few days. I have seen lots of sights and expect to see more for I am where there is lots of noise. The Germans Bhot a lot of big shells at us yesterday, but they fell about a half mile from the right spot. I climbed up a tree and watched the shells burst and, believe me, it is some sport to see the dirt shoot up. I could also see the German trerches. My pal and 1 are operating a first aid station. We are getting along fine and having a good time. We are full fledged buddies, as 1 met him the third day I was in the army, and we have been together ever since.
