SANDERS SAYS HE WILL DEFEAT MOSS

Friendly With the Miners, He Says, and Expects to Have Their Support.

The Indianapolis Star Friday said Representative Everett Sanders ot the fifth district and Robert E. Lee o{ Terre Haute, chairman of the Vigo county republican committee, conferred yesterday with Chairman Edmund M. Wasmuth and Secretary !«. W. Henley at the party headquarters at the Hotel Severlru Mr. Sanders has just returned from Washington and he expects to remain in his district until congress reconvenes, Aug:, if.

The political situation !H the fifth »as considered at the conference. Mr, Sanders believes he stands a very good chance of re-election over Ralph Moss of Brazil, the democratic nominee, who represented the district several years. Mr. Sanders has suportcd the various measures for the prosecution of the war and will make the race this year on his record. He has been active in looking after the interests of the miners In his district and It is reported that they are very friendly to him. fSome time ago Mr. Sanders waa credited with fretting a mine rescue car for Terre Haute, but so far the car has never been sent here for some reason and no explanation has been made).

Democrats Colombo* Todsy. The democrats will hold a Fourth district meeting at Columbus today. It will be attended by Chairman Fred VanNnys and several candidates on the state ticket.

The announcement that the fourth Liberty Ixian campaign will end Oct. t® relieves the minds of the party leaders, as it will leave them about three weeks in which, to close the political campaign.

Harry C. TTenflrlcksoh, chairman of the Marion county republican committee, announced yesterday that the republican organization and candidates here will lay aside politics Sept. 28 and take part in the Liberty Loan drive.

This is in line with the announce* Bient made some time ago by Chairman VanNuys, who said the democratic organization in Indiana will devote itself to the sale of Liberty Loan bonds. A similar plan was announced by the republican committee.

Both state committees are rushing their organization work so that they may have the decks pretty well cleared by the last of September.

MARGUERITE CI.AKK.

Marguerite Clark, the little girl of the stage and who will never grow ^ip, is engaged to be married. Lieutenant H. Palmerson Williams Is the lucky man. Reports of the engagement have been rumored for weeks, but no statement was given out until last week when Miss Cora Clark, sister of the little star, made a formal announcement.

Miss Clark recently, returned from Washington, where she has been the guest of friends and where her fiance has been stationed in the engineers' division of the army

The two have known each other for many years, but had not seen each other for some time until Marguerite was in New Orleans in the interest Of the third Liberty lxaa It was love at second sight and hence the engagement. Lieut. Williams is the son of a wealthy lumber dealer and at present has a purchasing commission for the government. Miss Clark spent her vacation in Washington, where Lieut. Williams has been stationed.

At the end of her vacation she returned to New York to start work at the studios on "The Three Bears." She will continue her work for she believes that all women should work in war times.

No date has been »et for the wedding owing to the uncertainty of Lieut. Williams' assignment, but should he be ordered overseas they will be married immediately.

Perhaps th« marriage license will satisfy many Inquisitive motion picture fans who claim that Marguerite is even older than the almanac says she is.
