BEE HIVE HATS IN FAVOR THIS FALL
:i|.|
S* I
|r tfoni. Simon Makes Style Forecast ry, —Hue Devil "Tains" Appear At the Boot Store.
Solid rfnrgette Instead of the trans- I parent brims, are the whim of the mo- i ifcent In hats. A. Simon, in charge of the millinery department of the* Pet%rsdorf store, forecasts that the i georgettes will be worn right on through the latter half o£ the summer i and through the autumn. Navy blues, i pinks and whites are very got»d.
Ribbon hat* are no second-raters, •ither, at this time when women folks are rushing around in the "summerlest" things of the summer. The ribbon hats come in various shapes, all
of them along conservative lines, how•ver. Lake the georgettes, they are shown at Petersdorfs in the blues, pinks and whites.
Tne "bee-hive" certainly looks tho i part! This bit of headgear is shaped like a bee-hive, but it does not
follow
that only those who have "bees in their bonnets" can wear it^ Anybody can. One bee-hive hat shown has a ribbon erown and georgette poke brim.
A real autumn hat is a large black one. The broad brim is of faille silk, and the crown is of velvet. The single ornament is a feather pom-pom at the back of the crown peeping around a trifle at the right of it. With this hat is displayed one of George Washington type, a three-cornered affair, the edpes of the upturned brim being Outlined with a gray chenille braid.
Mons. Simon says thes$ are merely sample of what he expects to have for prospective purchasers after* he returns from a ten days' buying trip to New York. He will leave Friday.
Black would seem-to be the leader tn the hats for autumn wear being •hown at the Root store. There is a (narked scarcity of trimming, too. Which adds much to the effectiveness W the bonnets. On© very large black Telvet hat has a grosgrain ribbon band with a buckle at the front as the only ornamentation.
Another large black velvet hat Is faced with sand colored velvet and has a sand colored band of uncurled ostrich feathers. Still another black hat is faced with pink taffeta, and is finished simply at the side of the crown With picot ribbon ends.
An extreme shape is shown in a taupe silk and velvet hat combination, It might have been copied from an aeroplane. The velvet "wings," •vhich are a part of the hat's brim, are tovered with sand wings.
Hey, ho! What have we here? It's the Blue Devil "tam"—and all its variations. The regulation Blue Devil hat is being shown as especially pretty for the misse^ To be sure, the older girls may wear them, too, if they wish. Almp with the ''tnm" that has been named for the French heroes are any number of other tam-o'-shanter* in "vr-ry stunning styles. They come In nil the wanted colors. The khaki promises to be especially good.
GIVE UP HOLIDAYS.

RETAIL MERCHANTS TO RESTRICT DELIVERIES
Action Taken Thursday Evening to Aid In Country's Conservation Movement
Store deliveries in Terre Haute will be limited to one a day, according to action taken Thursday evening at a meeting of retail dealers, representing all lines, held in the Chamber of Commerce headquarters. The action taken by the local merchants is in accordance with recommendations of the conservation section of the war industries board. The new rule will become effective Monday, August 5.
The purposes of the change are to release men for more eseentlal work and to effect an economy In the conduct of retail trade. The war industries board estimates that with the United States mercantile trade placed upon a one a day delivery there will be released for war work at least 100,000 men.

ing, told of how the Hem store had reduced its delivery expenses by 50 per cent by doing away with approval system.
Julius Lederer told of his It years study of the business systems. He told of using one horse and wagon for his delivery system up to last year, when he bought an auto which does the work at about half the expense. Mr. Lederer givee one delivery a day, and he told the merchants that he can do without any delivery at all.
The Lederer-Feibelman store has a delivery system now that charges 10 cents a package. One man does all the work. Mr. Lederer said that yesterday morning the man had seven packages to deliver ar.d that tomorrow morning he may have five.
Harry Skean talked on the ons delivery a day system and its importance. He also told of the re-adjust-ment of the grocery system.
The action of the merchants will mean that no wagon or truck will go to the same house nor cover the same route more than once a day. Bach vehicle may leave the store as many times as possible, but, each trip will be along a different route.
