LIQUOR CASE BLOWS IIP! AS JURY IS DEMANDED

Cliatoa Prosecutor Says "Liberal" Element There Too Strong to Bisk Conviction.

By Special Correspondent. C14NTON, Ind., July ST,—The trial of Charles Dorman, charged with violating the prohibition law, was to have been held before Mayor Ed l*owry, Friday morning, but when the defense gave notice that a Jury would be demanded, there was a sufden halt in the proceedings. The prosecutor realising that it would be next to Impossible to eeoure a Jury entirely free from "leanings" In favor of the liberals, dismissed the case. Attorney Mark Lyday for the defense, shot a uitle "grape-and-caxinIster" at the court for the apparent attempt to deny an accused man his constitutional rights, but this had no effect. The prosecutor said he was certain an appoal would follow conviction, and as he felt almost as sure a trial of the case before the mayor would result at best In a "hung" jury. He says he has evidence more than sufficient to convict in the circuit court, where the Jury will be made up of men from another section of the county.

This being hie belief, the prosecutor says it would be a waste of time and energy to try the case in the city court. He announced his intention to file the action in the circuit court. Mr. Dorman and several of his clerks have been arrested repeatedly within the last eight months, but have never been convicted. There are several more similar* cases pending on appeal the circuit court.

CLINTON, Ind., July 27.—The old buildings have been removed, the excavation has begun, and the material is being placed on the ground for the construction of the new high school building. Rheim Brothers, of Terre Haute, who have the contract, were in the city Friday making arrangements for the beginning of work just as soon as the excavation is far enough advanced. Report Big Wheat Yield.

fty Special Correspondent. CLINTON, Ind., July 27.—Vachel arid James. Houston, conducting a small farm near St. Bernice, in the northwest part of this township, report the biggest yield of wheat yet heard of In the state. They harvested and threshed a patch of four acres which yielded 55 bushels per acre, the four acres producing 220 bushels. They had another small field of twelve acres, which yielded 40 bushels to the acre. The sixteen acres yielded the brothers just 700 bushels of wheat. Edgar County Republicans Make Campaign Plans. By Special Correspondent.

PARIS. 111., July 27.—The Republican county committee met today at 11 o'clock and took steps to put a full Republican ticket in the county tnis fall, when the electorate will vote for county judge, treasurer, sheriff and county clerk. The time for filing petitions to get on the primary ticket expires next Wednesday. There has been no great amount of enthusiasm in the ranks of the Republican party. There is a good deal of rivalry among the Democrats for the various plums. The primary will be held in September at the same time as the statewide primaries for nominations for United States senators and members! of the house of representatives.

Body Laid to Rest.

PARIS, HL, July 27.—The body of Miss Frances Green, who was killed in an automobile accident near Sldell two weeks ago, was removed from the receiving vault and interred at Edgar cemetery this afternoon. Rev. Dr. Lord conducted the funeral exercises. Her sister, Miss Maxie Green, who was seriously injured at the same time, is reported to be somewhat improved at the Lakevlew hospital, Danville. She has regained consciousness and Is said to have ft fighting chance to recover.

Six Cows Found Dead.

PARIS, 111, Julj^ 27.—William J. Waltz, W. T. Williams and Ed Buckler, who are pasturing a number of cattle near Grandview, report that during the last week six of the cows were found dead in a field from some unknown cause. Veterinarians are trying to find out the reason for the deaths.
