NEWS OF THE STOCK MARKET

NEW YORK. July 22.—Stocks opened with a firm tone today, but otherwise there was no marked response to the further successes of the allied forces. U. S. steel rose a large fraction, but soon fell back. Other equipments reflected slight pressure with shippings and coppers. Liberty loans were steady, but Paris sixes rose a point.

NEW YORK, July 22.—Absence of public support was soon noted ly shorts. Steels, equipments, coppers and shippers were offered impartially at recessions of one to two points under last week's final prices. Earlyadvances in specialties, including tobaccos, were cancelled, and rails yielded on Reading's decline of 1%. although New Haven later became active and strong. Fractional rallies were registered at noon. Liberty 3&s sold at 99.60 to 99.70 4s at 93.90 to 94.60 and 4Vis at 95.76 to 95.88.
