GERMANS CEflMG SASSV ABOUT WAR

Heckle Von Kuehlmann, and Want f, to Enow Where Promised

Victory Is?

WASHINGTON, D. C„ June 29 German socialists, who had heard of Secretary Baker's announcement on June 10 that more than 700,000 American soldiers had been sent to France, Used the information in heckling Foreign Minister von Kuehlmann daring his recent speech in the reichstag. 5 Advices reaching France through a neutral country and received here by table today quote the socialist deputy, Haase, as blaming the war on Austria, denouncing the policy of the German pfovernment, and ridiculing the failure of the submarines to keep American Soldiers-out of France. He said: "In our country the ruling party is military. It is very desirable that this situation should be cleared up at least that Gen. Ludendorft should come forward once instead of the chancellor and take the responsibility of power. .! tf Submarines Have Failed. "ft Is said that money is the ruling motive with the English. This war has nhown that the homage to the golden calf is as ardent in our country *s in

Kngland and America. 'v-1 "Many times we have been told that victory is ours. On the 1st of Jan"f nary, 1917, when the submarine warfare •was begun, Herr Helfferich assured us •i-that America would not take any aclive part in the war. "Admiral von Cape lie marked his entrance into the war with an effective result which amounts to nil. Now there are 700,000 Americans in France.

The submarines have not been able to ,t impede them in any way. Shifts Blame To Austria, "This war was caused by Austria. ."The Flemish bovement, that we imag lned, is pure swindle. "The situation of Esthonla and Livonia under our occupation is deplorable and hopeless. That is what they 4 pompously call liberation of the small «r peoples from Russian opppreesion.

'L

If the Russian people rise again it will be a life and death struggle between us.*

Kaiser Is Furious.

AMSTERDAM, June 29.—Chancellor von Hertling's speech, explaining that of Foreign Secretary von Kuehlmann, was the result of orders from the kaiser, it was reported here today. The kaiser Is said to be furious at Von Kuehlmann.

Speaking in the reichstag Tuesday regarding Foreign Minister von Kuehlmann'g assertion that peace is militarily impossible, Herr Naumann said "thousands of soldfers think the same," according to a Berlin dispatch.

Expect Von Kuehlmann to Quit. "An absolute victory over the hordes

Of North and South America and China is not completely attainable," Naumann continued, "even if we sacrifice onr last -man.''

A Berlin dispatch published in the (Frankfurter Zeitung says that. Judging from the comments of conservative and 4 pan-German newspapers on Von

Kuehlmann's speech, his retirement is to be expected.

•V v Denies Long War Plara. LONDON. June 29.—Dr. von Kuehlmann. replying to critics during the course of yesterday's debate in the German reichstag. said: "Once legends hav# arisen they Are difficult to destroy, but I must declare, with a view to counter attacking the growth of a legend, that there can be no question of my having bound myself to the idea of a long war.*

The foregoing was evoked by deputy who referred to "Dr. von Kuehlmann's expectation of a war of very long duration.''

Tho Ciceronian Literary society Of the Normal school held its first meeting of the summer term last evening in the student building. Nine old members answered the roll call and three new members were present for the first time. These new members were the Messrs. Emil Cromwell, Sam Kerr and George Conklin. The meeting was mostly concerned with the making of plans for this term's work and soma real meetings were planned. Several of the old members are expected to enter school later in the term and If they do they will add more "pep** to the work. The society lost some very valuable members through graduation lapt term, but that Is only the plan of, the work, to turn good men out into the world, nnd the gaps are being 111HMI with material as it appears in order ta keep up the good work. The officers for the term are: Frank Grove, president Mark Schinnerer. secretary and Silaa

State Normal Notes

Every State Normal man in the gervice of the army or navy is to get si Normal year-book this year if it is possible to get it to him. The work of wrapping and addressing these booka is now going on and some Job of work it is too, for you must remember that State Normal is well represented in Uncle Sam's great force of fighting men. The board of trustees of the Normal recently unanimously voted to send the books to the men, so in accordanoa with this resolution President Pafsons yesterday called Miss Rose Cox into the work and the annuals will soon be on their way. Miss Cox, you know, knows exactly where every one of "her" soldier boys is located. She and her squad of co-workers are doing and will do their part in making the soldier feel proud of State Normal. It was a great disappointment to the workers to leant that it would be impossible to send the books to the boys in France, but since it is a government order and to the best aid of the war energies not to send the books, they are taking it as a war "tragedy." State Normal now has ovtr i y o e s u e n s s o e w e e I n France," besides some four hundred, scattered through the numerous army and navy training camps here In the states. The school is in close touch with a great number of these boys and letters are received from them by President Parsons and other members of the faculty in nearly every delivery. A| great large service flag hangs In chapel hall and a beautiful framed honor ro|l is displayed nearhy as a constant Mminder to all that State Normal's bast are in the great flght furthering to the prratest possible extent those great principles of humanity and Justice for which State Normal has ever stood.

Among the boys who arrived eafel*v^ overseas are: Othel K. Jackson, brother of George G. Jackson, of Riley Rotlf ert C. Stimson. son of Mra J. B. 8timson. 1314 Buckeye street William Schulti, 2000 North Seventh, son of Mrs. H. L. Srhultz Harry Smith, son of Mr. and Mra. Charles Smith. 698 Eagle street.

Mr. Schultz has a brother who Is al-" ready serving in Franca "WaUx Twenty-third engineers.

The following men have been accepted for service in the United States navy: Dewey D. Hlxon, Universal Ira W. Williams. Farmersburg George H. Kemer, Terra Haute: Earl Graham, Brazil. "S

The Vigo county selective draft board has sent questionnaires to the following hoys who registered June 5. and they have been returned to the board, as the boys could not be located: Gordon C. MoPherson. Herbert H. Thompson. Clarence Whalen, Louis K. Wilson, Adolph Johnson, Kelly Hfdg?*, EInvr Joyner, Harry H. Bile, Ruch Todd, Charles D. foore, Milton L. Price, Oresta Marangana. William R.
